I am so pleased with how many Year 5 and 6 children have joined Debate Club. There are lots of reasons from increasing their confidence and ability to listen to and challenge other people’s views to having the chance to argue and slam their hands on tables about topics they feel passionate about.

We have agreed on three motions to get us going over the next few weeks and decided which teams are proposing and opposing. Our campaigns are underway with slogans agreed. I’m really looking forward to watching these develop in the lead up to the big Debate!

As scientists this half term, we have been learning all about ‘Evolution and Inheritance’.

To find out what we have learned, ask us some of the following questions:

• Who is Charles Darwin?
• What is evolution?
• What does ‘survival of the fittest’ mean?
• What do fossils tell us?
• How are cacti adapted to suit their environment?
• How are camels adapted to their environment?
• What is inheritance?
• What characteristics can be a result of inheritance or environment?

Today, we studied the types of characteristics our classmates may have inherited from their family members by trying to find their matching relative – it was great fun!

Year 6 have been focusing on the meaning of Psalm 139 this week and today created their own version. Reading them brought so much pleasure as they showed how much they had related to this Psalm. Below are two beautiful examples.

We were so fortunate today to welcome Angela and Justine into our school today.

Years 1 – 6 attended an assembly this morning which informed us about what number to call when there is a medical emergency, what type of accidents require phoning for an ambulance, what information we need to give to the people on the other end of the phone and also when not to phone for an ambulance.

Year 5 and 6 were able to take this further as they received CPR training. During this session, we learned the process we need to follow should we ever encounter such an incident. We then were able to practise some of our training on dummies.

We will continue to remind each other of how we can make a difference by helping to restart a heart.

We have been focusing on Mary’s Magnificat in RE this week. We have discussed the many things Mary would have been praising God for and what we want to praise God for. This led to children performing their own versions of The Magnificat which were so reverently and beautifully done.
