Transition Day Y5-6

By Mrs J Hartwell6th July 2016

This afternoon, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Year 5 and introducing myself to them as their new Year 6 class teacher. They were an absolute delight! I am extremely looking forward to helping them to have a fabulous final year at All Souls! Mrs Elkins is also feeling very lucky to be with Year 6 next year, especially as she worked with them from the beginning of their journey back in Nursery through to Reception and Year 1.

They had to order themselves – without talking – into a few different ways. Surprisingly, the majority of them did well although a few did struggle with not letting sound escape from their mouths!

 IMG_7876

They then had to think about what they were looking forward to…

IMG_7884

… and any questions we wanted to ask!

IMG_7888

They then had to decide what made a perfect pupil, cool classmate and terrific teacher to create some agreed class rules for next year to make sure they have a fabulous one!IMG_7910    IMG_7916 IMG_7917

Finally, Year 5 were set with the task of selling themselves to me. They really had to think about why they wanted to be in Year 6, why they deserved it and what they had to offer…IMG_7919

After listening to them present their case, it was difficult not to say yes, it was clear that they were all ready for Year 6 and I am really looking forward to welcoming them in properly.

Summer Holiday Tasks – I have provided them all with a few little tasks to keep them occupied over the summer holidays that I look forward to receiving! In the meantime, have a very happy and memorable end to Year 5 and safe summer holidays recharging those batteries!

WE ROCK!

By Mrs J Hartwell28th June 2016

Wow! Year 4, 5 and 6 had THE best morning today thanks to Mr Evans and his fabulous rock band who literally wowed the socks off us with their rock performance. Everyone, and we mean EVERYONE (Mr Marsh, Miss Quinn, Mrs Elkins and Mrs Hartwell included), on their feet, clapping their hands, rocking their heads and singing along. We wish every morning could be like today.

Here’s a few of the special moments we managed to capture.

Ackers Adventure

By Mrs J Hartwell26th June 2016

As a reward for contributing to what has been a fantastic year, we have organised a trip for Year 6 to Ackers Adventure in Birmingham on Friday 8rd July 2016. This is another exciting opportunity to make a few more memories as a class before the end of their time at All Souls. To try and suit all children, and bearing in mind the adventures we watched the children embrace in Dol-y-Moch, we have chosen three, one-and-a-half hour long, sessions for the children to take part in. Children will learn how to ski; work together to make their way across high ropes, tunnels and other exciting obstacles; and harness up to take the Leap of Faith.

The cost of this trip is £27; however we understand that school trips and events are costly at this time of year. Therefore, as it is their last trip here at All Souls’, we are contributing £10 to the cost of each child making the total amount payable £17 per child. To further keep costs low, we have decided to make two trips in the minibus which the school will cover the cost of. This does mean that half of the children will need to arrive at school for 8am and be picked up at 3.45pm; the other half will come to school at the usual time of 8.30am and be picked up at 5pm. We will try our best to fit this around your needs however, as we need an equal amount of children on each minibus journey, this may be difficult. Therefore, we kindly request you tick as many options as you are able to accommodate on the reply slip below.

Children will need to wear their school tracksuit and appropriate footwear. It is essential they also bring a pair of gloves as these are an absolute necessary to be able to take part in two of the challenges. Children are also asked to bring their packed lunch in a carrier bag.

Finally, I apologise for the late notice; as I am sure you are aware, it has been a busy few weeks in Year 6. I kindly ask you to complete the reply slip provided and include the full amount as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Hartwell

Congratulations Year 6!

By Mrs J Hartwell26th June 2016

Today we had the pleasure of witnessing the next stage of some of our Year 6 children’s faith journey as they were Confirmed by Bishop William Kenney.

The children looked extremely smart and presented themselves beautifully. I was very impressed with their reverence and active participation as they led us through the Mass and received the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Sincere thanks to all of those who came to support Year 6 today and thank you to all of the choir who sounded wonderful.

I hope you all had a lovely day.
