These four bookworms competed in today’s heat for the Booked Up Quiz hosted by Cardinal Newman!
They worked together fabulously as a team sharing all of their knowledge to answer four rounds of questions.
They deservedly gained themselves a place in the final in July – in addition to a brand new book and a box of sweets!
Year 6 joined St John Vianney for a performance from the Belgrade to help them with their next big transition in life: secondary school.
The transition from primary to secondary school can be a tremendously challenging time in lots of ways. Not only did they learn about what they might expect in secondary school, the play also allowed us to explore the challenges that they many encounter and come up with their own ideas as to how to meet those challenges.
Mo and Ash helped them to reflect on all the complexed feelings they might have had about going to Secondary. The interactive theatre drew many questions and comments from the children who really enjoyed seeing that all year 6 seemed to share the same views.

Year 6 were lucky to join a few other schools at Warwick University today where they took part in a variety of different sporting tasks which really brought out their competitive nature! It was fantastic to watch as the Aviva women’s cycle tour passed through the campus on their way from Atherstone to Stratford upon Avon. Despite the rain, it was a fantastic atmosphere.
Thank you to Holy Family for hosting Father Hudson’s Good Shepherd Mass. It was lovely to see so many schools there standing tall with their banners bringing their offerings together. The choir sounded beautiful and all children read with reverence.

Year 6 were fortunate enough to receive a visit from the magistrates today. We all learned so much from Mr Kiely and Mrs Oliver – we had so many questions to ask!
These four became witnesses to the ‘crime’.
The courtroom listened to both sides of the argument from the prosecution and defence.
We had to decide whether John Smith was guilty of theft or not.
The reporters took lots of notes to ensure they had all the facts. 
Everyone had to speak up so Mrs Greenfingers could hear.
All the children who took part in the roleplay were fabulous as were the rest of the children who carefully came to their decision and found the defendant GUILTY!
Huge congratulations to these Y6 superstar super-spellers who represented our school in the annual Superspell competition held at Earlsdon library and won their heat walking away with a terrific trophy!
Each round threw a different challenge at them, including spelling tricky words, solving anagrams and counting how many times a chosen letter appears in a chosen word – all harder than you think when you’re under time pressure!
I was so proud to sit their and watch their hard work pay off this year as they really demonstrated their skills. Both Earlsdon and Hearsall Primary were also superb and great competition. The score was close as you can see…

After speaking with Father Michael, I am writing to let you know the arrangements for the special sacrament of Confirmation which the Year 6 children will soon be receiving. The Mass itself, celebrated by Bishop William, is on Sunday 26th June at 9.30am. It would be really helpful for the sponsor to be seated on the benches by 9.15am as the children will be progressing into the church and joining them before mass begins. Together with Father Michael, we want the Confirmation to be a truly memorable and spiritual occasion. Part of the preparation for this would usually involve making our confessions. Father Michael therefore invites us to church this Saturday 11th June at 4.30pm for a general meeting and discussion with him followed by confessions at 5.00pm. Father Alex will also be joining us for confessions.
An important part of our RE work this year has focused on Vocation, which ties in well with our understanding of Confirmation. On Saturday 15th June, the church will be open all day for silent prayer before The Blessed Sacrament between 10.00am-6.00pm. So, another excellent way of getting ready for the Confirmation would be to come along for that spell of prayer at some point during that day.
This year, on the day of Confirmation, the children will be sitting at the front of the Church with their Sponsor and the families will be sitting behind the Confirmandi. The children and their sponsors will come to the altar rail for the renewal of their baptismal promises and will stay there for the laying of the hands. The Sponsors will stand with the Confirmandi and will take them to be confirmed individually to Bishop William who will be to the right of altar.
Because of the importance of the occasion, it is necessary that we all set a good example of reverence to our children. It is particularly important that we remember to switch off mobile phones on entering the church. We kindly ask that no photographs are taken or videos used during the ceremony: there will be an opportunity to do so after Mass.
I would just like to take this opportunity to remind you that your child’s sponsor needs to be at least 16 years of age, a practising Catholic and a positive role model. Please provide your child’s sponsor with the enclosed letter and form which needs to be completed and returned to school as soon as possible.
Children should dress in their smart ‘Sunday best’; therefore, we request no denim clothing or trainers.

Year 6 are preparing to leave primary school this year and begin their transition to secondary school. This week, we discussed how we were all feeling and why. Children were asked to try and some this up in one word and here is what they said:
We are going to be discussing how we can either embrace or overcome these very natural feelings.
Year 6 have been writing their own biographical poems to get them back into the swing of writing. We are so pleased with the amount of thought and effort they put into them.
