What a wonderful week we have had in Year 4!
We have been busy learning, creating and reflecting across the curriculum. In Art, we explored storytelling through art, inspired by the work of Laura Carlin, experimenting with charcoal to create expressive artwork. In Science, we grouped and classified plants, while in Geography we explored the different environmental regions found across the Americas. In Maths, we have been learning our 7 times tables and using number lines to work with numbers up to 10,000.
We also enjoyed a Music lesson with Mrs Cooke, Tennis and Computing with Mr Youson, giving us plenty of opportunities to learn new skills and challenge ourselves.
This week was particularly special as we celebrated National Poetry Day, with this year’s theme being Wonder. We explored Lucinda Jacob’s poem Rules for a Good Walk and thought carefully about its message: slowing down, switching off our devices, reducing unnecessary noise and taking the time to notice and appreciate the beauty around us in nature. We then headed outside for our own peaceful nature walk around the school grounds, taking time to be still, observe our surroundings and simply wonder. This inspired us to write our very own poems, following in Lucinda Jacob’s footsteps.
We were also amazed when Mr Williams performed Jabberwocky for us! We spotted lots of poems displayed around school too, celebrating the wonderful grown-ups who make our school such a special place.
We were delighted to finally publish and send our persuasive letters to Councillor Tucker this week. We’re now keeping our fingers crossed for a swift reply and hoping to hear his decision next week!
We ended our week with a beautiful livestream with One Life’s Dan and Emily, giving us time to be thankful to God during this Harvest season, to praise Mary through the Rosary during October, and to celebrate joyfully through song.
What a wonderful week of learning, creativity, reflection and gratitude – including a wonderful experiment demonstrated by Charlie in this week’s show and tell which uses changes in air temperature and pressure to force a peeled hard-boiled egg through a bottle opening that is smaller than the egg itself! Wow!
Well done to Milo and Harrison, this week’s Class Superstars! 🌟
