And just like that, we have reached the end of our first half term in Year 4!
What a busy, productive and memorable eight weeks it has been. We have certainly packed a lot into our first half term together!
In Maths, we have been rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000, and we have been so impressed with everyone’s progress and newfound rounding skills! To put them to the test, our class treat box was locked with a six-digit code, which could only be discovered by using the first digit of the answers to a series of rounding questions. Well done to Purple table, who cracked the code and unlocked the treats! Yum! In English, we have worked incredibly hard to edit, refine, publish and share our classic fiction narratives.
Our stories, inspired by our little Borrower friend Arietty, were finally ready to share with our friends in Year 2. They were very excited to hear all about what Arietty had been getting up to in the Year 4 classroom and we thoroughly enjoyed becoming authors and sharing our very own stories aloud.
In Science, we have brought our unit on Living Things and Their Habitats to a close by exploring the positive and negative ways humans can impact different environments. In Geography, we have been busy becoming Route 66 tour guides! We are currently recording our group tour guide presentations, ready to share them through QR codes, with a little technological help from Mr You!
We also shared in a very special Rosary Service, led by Father Paul in Church on Thursday during this special month of the Holy Rosary. The children were wonderfully prayerful and reverent throughout the service and we were incredibly proud of them.
This week, we also said farewell to Miss Sonja, who has been the wonderful lady behind our tasty school meals for an incredible eight and a half years. As a special goodbye, Miss Sonja left some golden tickets hidden underneath chairs around school. Congratulations to Isabel, Harrison and Thomas who found them and enjoyed some fabulous treats! We wish Miss Sonja all the very best for her next adventure and thank her for all her care and kindness!
A huge well done to Joseph and Bethany, our Year 4 Superstars this week, and to all of the children who received praise postcards. We also have a very special congratulations for Joseph T, who has earned his very well-deserved pen licence – the first of the Autumn term in Year 4! We have no doubt that there will be plenty more closely following behind watching how quickly the children are progressing.
Well done also to our fantastic team of Year 4 children who played Tag Rugby no Monday, winning four games and drawing one. They put in some excellent performances, demonstrating great teamwork, sportsmanship and respect throughout. Well done to everyone who took part – you should be incredibly proud of their efforts and the fantastic way you represented our school!
Some of our girls also braved the rain to take part in a football tournament at the AT7 Centre. For some, it was their very first experience of playing in a football match, making their performances even more impressive! The team had a fantastic tournament, winning three games, drawing one and losing just one. They showed great determination, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout, doing themselves and the school proud!
On Wednesday, 14 Year 4 children split into two teams to take part in a values dodgeball competition. Alongside their performances on the court, children were rewarded for demonstrating key values, including teamwork, respect and honesty. Both teams performed superbly, showing great sportsmanship and supporting one another throughout the event. One of our teams finished in an excellent second place, taking home a well-deserved silver medal! Well done to all 14 children for their efforts and for representing our school so positively.
Looking back over our first eight weeks together, it really has been wonderful to see how much we have grown as a class. We have got to know one another, built relationships, worked hard, made progress and created lots of special memories along the way. It was also lovely to meet so many of our parents too at parents’ evening to share in celebrating the children’s successes so far. Now it’s time for a well-earned rest! We hope you all have a wonderfully restful half term, ready to return refreshed and determined to continue making progress, creating memories and growing academically, spiritually and personally as we head into the second half of the Autumn term… and, of course, edge ever closer to the big C — Christmas!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Happy Half Term, Year 4!
