Forest school trip to the local allotment

In keeping with this time of harvest, we were lucky enough to be invited to visit our local allotments where the children (and teachers) learnt lots about planting and harvesting seasonal crops. The children had lots of fun digging up potatoes and picking cooking apples. The children were all fascinated by the expanse of the agricultural land right on our doorstep. It has inspired many of them to want to own an allotment when they group. A massive thank you to Roger and Mrs McGaffney’s mum for allowing us to visit, being the best tour guides, teaching us so much and gifting us with some lovely treats. We hope to visit again in the summer months to see the allotment in full bloom!

Design Technology- Pizza Making

Year 4 really enjoyed our pizza making session in collaboration with the school kitchen today. They worked hard to make their pizza and construct a 3D box to take it home in. They looked and smelt delicious. They were very excited to eat them when they got home. I hope they managed to share some!

Science~ Living things & habitats

I am amazed by the hard work, effort & enthusiasm that the Year 4 children have shown towards their recent mini science project linked to our current focus on animal classification. Learning is at its best when children are enthused to continue with it outside of the classroom and their commitment towards their reptile pet research and presentations has certainly been an example of this. Their efforts have been outstanding. I am so impressed by their thorough research and imaginative results that I have invited Mr Cooke to our classroom so that we can showcase our learning. Thank you for all of the contributions made by parents, carers, siblings and other family members and for getting on board with this, it wouldn’t have worked without your support.

The pets are staying in school for a few more days before they may need to be rehoused at a suitable abode…the children are hoping that this will be at home with them…

Forest School

Year 4 have been busy in the outdoor forest school area over the last two weeks. We have been designing and building animal habitats, resulting in the new edition of a hedgehog home in the hope of attracting a hedgehog or two. The children worked hard to find a suitable area for the den to go, added hay and leaves for a comfy bed, food to entice the animal in and then ‘camouflaged’ the area by adding lots of twigs and leaves to help the house blend into the natural environment. The children have also been busy on scavenger hunts, looking for different signs of nature, making natural paint brushes, decorating and hiding to rocks, building forts and dens and having fun playing in and exploring the different areas of our forest school. Next week, we will be doing some planting and we are hoping to have a camp fire in the coming weeks too! Great job so far Year 4

First week back!

We have had a wonderful first week with your children, we have really enjoyed getting to know them and can already see what superstars they all are. We have had lots of fun together with a jam-packed schedule of fun activities, ranging from settling those first day nerves & jitters by making some tasty Jitter Juice to creating a gratitude jar where the children shared some lovely ideas about things that they are thankful for.

We are very much looking forward to the year ahead and have lots of exciting things planned!
