Year 6 are currently reading ‘Can you see me?’ by Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott.

Year 6, please comment on this blog post your thoughts on our new class text:
– Are you enjoying it? Why?
– What has been your favourite bit so far?
– Is this book similar or different to any other books you have read – how?
I am really enjoying the book Can you see me? Because it is really enjoyable I would recommend it to people who enjoy reading because it is a really fun and exciting book
I am really enjoying the book – Can you see me? – because it is shining the light on how you can make people with autism feel more comfortable. I think it was a great choice Mrs Hartwell.
I have got can you see me on ‘Audible’, i have finished listening to the book which I have really enjoyed listening to. This is because I can see similarities between me and Tally the main character. On my walks with my dad I would tell him all about the story and what had happened. It is different from other books i’ve listened to and read as its realistic and give a real view of an autistic girl and how she is treated. I have done some research into the book on youtube and i have found this ; Libby’s conference speech at Sheffield Autism Dialogue Conference December 2018 and Can you see me? Libby talks about how her writing went viral!
Thank you for your comment, Ethan. I am so glad you enjoyed this book!
My thoughts on the book, ‘Can You See Me?’
I think this book is very thought-provoking as it makes us think about what it is like to be autistic. One problem I have with this book is that it doesn’t explain all the sypmtoms of autism, so sometimes Tally, the main character, will do something that would normally be frowned upon, but you can’t tell if she is being badly behaved or just struggling.
I’m looking forward to reading the next few chapters. I hope that the rest of Year 6 are enjoying it too.
A lovely and honest reflection, William! As you go on, the book might help you understand a little more whether Tally is being ‘badly behaved’ or ‘just struggling’. Happy Reading 🙂
I have only just started the book but already it is amazing and I have started to save up for the next book called Do you know me?
Great to hear, Maddie! I have bought it as a birthday present to myself! Just waiting for it to arrive 🙂
