Rain, rain go away!

By Sarah Scofield21st May 2021

Hello Everyone,

What another rainy week we have had! Luckily the rain stayed away for us on Thursday morning so we had a nice dry walk over to the church. The children were so excited about going to our church to role play baptising Baby Grace. Father Paul met us at the church so we were able to present him with our card we had made,  to say that we had been praying for the sick people in our community. We dressed Baby Grace in her beautiful white baptism dress and wrapped her in a white shawl to keep her warm. Cara and Stanley were great parents and Lilah and Lachlan were very responsible God Parents. It was lovely to see how in awe the children were to be inside the church and to look at the stained glass windows and statues – we were also very proud of how sensilble and respectful the children were. When we got back to Nursery we had a party to celebrate. Fingers crossed for some sunshine next week.

Hello Everyone,

Despite the relentless rain this week we have still been able to get outside and we have been busy planting lots of flowers and plants – each child in Nursery have been given their own pot to care and look after. The children are very excited about the caterpillars – they have grown huge and are ready to turn into chrysalids. We have made some beautiful symmetrical butterfly prints and the children have worked on our ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ maths display. We are also very excited that we are going on a trip to Twycross Zoo on 21st June, this will be such a great learning experience for the children so it would be wonderful if all the children are able to go. Have a good weekend!

Very Hungry Caterpillars

By Sarah Scofield7th May 2021

Hello Everyone,

We have been fascinated to see our caterpillars grow from tiny caterbillars to big fat caterpillars so we are waiting in anticipation for them to turn into chrysalis. The children have made playdough caterpillars, printed caterpillars using a repeating pattern and we have been drawing what The Very Hungry Caterpillar ate each day for our maths display. We have also been learning about Baptism this week and talking about how water is used and that we are given our special name – thank you so much for sending in photos and artefacts from your child’s Baptism. Next week we will be focussing on butterflies and we will also be doing some more planting, so fingers crossed the weather will be kind to us.Have a good weekend.

Spring has sprung!

By Sarah Scofield23rd April 2021

Hello Everyone,

Happy St.Georges day! What wonderful weather we have been enjoyng this week, so we have been doing most of our learning outside. The children have been very excited to use our outside area – we have put out the climbing frame and mud kitchen with the addition of sawn off logs to provide seating/stepping stones. We had a new arrival in Nursery this morning – tiny caterpillars which we are going to look after and watch turn into butterflies, so our theme for the next couple of weeks is going to be ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ which should be lots of fun.The children looked great in their red, white and blue today – we learnt about St.George, made England flags, watched ‘Zog’ and coloured dragons. Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the sunshine!

Happy Easter!

By Sarah Scofield1st April 2021

This week we have enjoyed making Easter cards, making and decorating Easter egg biscuits and making chocolates. The Easter Bunny paid a visit last night and left us chocolate eggs to find outside which we were very excited about looking for. A BIG,BIG THANK YOU to all of you and your children – Nursery raised £124 for CAFOD! We are super proud of our children and they are extremely proud of themselves for being so helpful at home – well done! Finally, have a great Easter and we will see you back at Nursery on Monday 19th April.

One potato, two potato

By Sarah Scofield26th March 2021

Hello Everyone,

Despite the rain we were able to get out this morning to plant our potato seedlings which the children are very excited about watching grow, dig up, cook and eat. On Monday the children made their own sandwich for snack time using the cress we have been growing in Nursery. The children have also made some beautiful chicks, painted and drawn daffodils and made Easter cards. Next week we will be making Easter bicuits and chocolates and hopefully The Easter Bunny will be making a visit and leaving eggs for an Easter egg hunt. Thank you to all of you who have sent donations in for CAFOD – there is still time to send in slips saying how the children have been helping at home along with any donations. Remember next week our last day in Nursery is Thursday. Have a good weekend everyone.

Hello Everyone,

This week we have planted our broad beans and have been doing lots of measuring activities. The children also looked wonderful on Wednesday, dressed up in green for St.Patrick’s Day. Thank you to the children and parents who have sent in their envelopes for CAFOD and telling us what jobs they have done at home to help – the children have been really proud of the things they have done. It would be great if everybody could return their envelopes by the end of next week and we can celebrate what everybody has been doing to help out at home. As well as doing Easter activities, next week we will be making sandwiches with some of the cress we have grown and we will also be planting potatoes. Have a good weekend Everyone.

We have started off simply this week by starting to grow cress seeds and next week we will be planting beans and also potting some flowers for a special Sunday that is coming up soon! On Thursday the children loved dressing up for World Book Day – they all looked wonderful. Lots of stories were read and we also decorated eggs as book characters. Have a good weekend!

How can we make these feathers move?

What would you wear on a sunny day?

Making sun catchers to hang up at the window

Hello Everyone,

Well we have certainly been making the most of the mild and sunny weather in Nursery this week, so we have been having lots of fun outdoors. This week we have been thinking about different weather – some of the activies we have been doing are making sun catchers, dancing with streamers in the wind and trying to make feathers move without touching them, using paper and different kinds of fans. Next week we will be starting our topic on growing and planting and on Thursday it is World Book Day, so don’t forget the children can dress up as a favourite book character or wear their pyjamas. On Wednesday we will also be decorating hard boiled eggs as book characters. Our phoneme for next week is ‘O’. Have a good week everyone and enjoy the sunshine.

Ash Wednesday – We begin our Lenten Journey

By Miss R Corkerry17th February 2021

Today marks the beginning of our Lenten journey. Next week, when we are back to learning, we will be having daily reflections about this special season which will be accessed through Google Classroom. Please find below a copy of the Lenten calendar from Walk with Me, do your best at home to live out some of these daily challenges.

Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It is a time of reflection where we reflect on who we are and the people we aspire to be. Today and in the coming weeks, we aim to focus on our relationship with God, often through choosing to give up something or to volunteer and give of ourselves for others. As we think about these promises, let us think of making a true sacrifice as an individual or as a family to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

This special time marks the beginning and the end. We came from love, we live in love, we return to love. May our Lenten journey as our All Souls’ family be a sharing of this love with all creation by opening our hearts to Him in trust. May our Lenten promise focus on creating in us quiet places where God can refresh and heal us, and we can come and rest awhile.

May we remember that ‘we are dust and to dust we shall return.’
