Visit from our MP

We were happy to welcome the MP for Coventry North, Taiwo Owatemi, to our school last week. She met with our Y5 and Y6 children to speak about her current campaigns and allow the children to ask any questions.

As part of our Live Simply work, the children asked Taiwo about what the government are currently doing to support the most vulnerable people of our world with the ongoing Climate Crisis. Taiwo said she was wiling to support the children’s writing asking the government to consider giving more support to those most in need during this difficult time.

 

We thank Taiwo and Kiki for their visit and look forward to their support in the coming weeks.

It was another close tournament between the children in Year 4 and Year 6 on TTRS this half term, but huge congratulations to Year 4 for their fabulous win!

I am sure Mr Rolison will reward you with some extra play this Friday… 😀

Engineering Workshop with AtkinsRealis

Year 5 were very fortunate to have a visit from engineering company AtkinsRealis to learn about how we can all contribute to a better future by shaping how people are housed, connected, powered, and protected.  The workshop focused on infrastructure, energy and innovative ways as to how we can reduce carbon emissions.

The children asked lots of thoughtful questions and participated in designing their own ideas of how to harness renewable energy to reduce the impact of climate change. We even had a great Lego design showing a potential hydro-electric car of the future and designed our own game of ‘Climate Change Snakes and Ladders’, as we challenged our partners in a race to the finish!

Thank you to Tim Smith from AtkinsRealis for the great workshop and for joining us for the afternoon. We all learnt a lot! Well done to all of the children for creating some fantastic ideas and designs for combating climate change. We look forward to hearing who our competition winners are!

Science experiments!

As part of our Science unit, Properties and Changes of Materials, Year 5 have been busy planning and conducting experiments to find out all about solubility. They have been experimenting with sand, salt, sugar, chalk and coffee granules to see which substances dissolve and which are insoluble.

The results were followed up with further experiments to investigate how (or if!) we could separate the substances that we dissolved by the processes of evaporation, filtration, sieving and magnetism. We had some interesting outcomes and lots of fun predicting and finding out whether the changes would be reversible or irreversible.

We are looking forward to more experiments and investigations in the summer term as we begin our new unit on Earth and Space.

 

Mousike Ensemble!

We had a fun-filled morning performing at the Coventry School’s Mousike Ensemble hosted by our very own Mrs Cooke at St John Vianney school. Our performance was inspired by the artwork of Frida Kahlo and we performed Viva La Vida by Coldplay.

We thoroughly enjoyed watching the performances from the other schools and performing in unison with them in several numbers and in the finale. We have some very talented musicians and singers in Year 5!

A huge thank you to Mrs Cooke for all of her hard work with us in our music lessons and rehearsals. We have loved you teaching us so much about music, art and design! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to participate in the Mousike Ensemble 2025. Viva La Vida!

What a day at the LEGO Discovery Land!

We have a had FABULOUS day at the LEGO Discovery Centre, Birmingham! We got to go on two rides, enjoyed an immersive experience in the 4D cinema and there was so much LEGO to play with! It was amazing to see the children building cars and towers, giving great thought to their creations and perfecting their builds!

All the children were beautifully behaved and very respectful of the public. They were wonderful All Souls representatives and made Mrs Rae, Mr Youson and Miss Smith very proud! More pictures to follow shortly 🙂

Furry Friends and Creepy Crawlies!

As part of our Science unit:  ‘Animals Including Humans’, we had a hands-on morning getting to know some wild and wonderful creatures!

The children were able to encounter lop-eared rabbits, guinea pigs , a blue-tongued skink, a python and even a tarantula! It was a wonderful opportunity to experience the animals and reptiles and all of the children had the chance to hold and stroke each animal in turn. Some of us even overcame our fear of snakes and spiders!. What a morning!

Thank you to Claire from Animal Encounters for sharing her vast knowledge with us and for allowing the children the opportunity to experience the animals first hand! We really enjoyed our time with you and learnt a lot!
