As I am sure you are all aware, Year 6 will be sitting their statutory end of Key Stage assessments (SATs) throughout the week beginning Monday 8th May 2017. The timetable for the assessments, which is the same for all schools, is as follows:

  AM  PM
Monday 8th May English reading test (1 hour)
Tuesday 9th May English grammar, punctuation and spelling test (45 minutes + Spelling test)
Wednesday 10th May Maths Paper 1 (arithmetic) and

Maths Paper 2 (reasoning)

(30minutes)

(40minutes)

Thursday 11th May Maths Paper 3 (reasoning) (40minutes)

It is imperative that your child attends school each day that week and arrives by 8.30am at the latest. We will begin the tests once children are settled.

As you know, the children have prepared for these assessments throughout the year by working extremely hard. They are very aware of the format of the tests, having completed sample and past papers and therefore know how to complete them to the best of their abilities.

Once complete, the assessments are then posted off to be externally marked. These results typically return to school in early July, at which point they are checked by us. The children will find out their results once we have done this and feel the time is right. Your child’s results will be made available to you in their end of year school report.

It is understandable that the children may be feeling slightly nervous about the assessments. I have however, explained to them that they are not something that they should now be worrying about – that’s my job! They have worked incredibly hard this year and this is simply an opportunity for them to show this off. They should feel extremely proud of their efforts, as I already do!

If you have any questions about the SATs, please do not hesitate in coming to discuss them with me.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,

Mrs J Hartwell

*NB Please note, there was an error on the letter sent home – the two reasoning papers in maths are 40minutes, not 45minutes.
