Year 5 updates

By Mr A Cooke28th September 2018

Year 5 have been so busy recently, that they’ve hardly had enough time to update their blog!  Get ready for this week’s bumper edition!

Our topic this term is:

and so we’ve been learning all about space and in particular, the way that our solar system works.  Here is an example of our work so far.

In RE, we have been studying the ‘Canticle of Creation’ which is a special prayer, written by St Francis of Assisi.  Using this as inspiration, we have tried to write our very own versions.

We were also sharing, with each other, our God given talents (William’s seems to be star jumps!)

In maths, we have discovered Roman Numerals and have been learning the values of each symbol.

Our ‘Cold Writing’ this week was all about beautiful gardens – with a hidden dark side!  Our Cold Write before this was about the discovery of a NEW planet.

In PE we have started to learn about disc sports – which has been great fun.

We are also very proud to be the class with the highest attendance to extra curricular activities!

That’s all for now. Until next time………

Hannah & Darragh

50th Anniversary of the School Building

By Mr A Cooke28th September 2018

Thank you to everyone who helped to make our celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the school building so special this morning.  We started with a lovely whole school mass and then gathered together back at the school for refreshments (thank you AIP!).  It was great to see so many former pupils and members of staff and we were so glad to be able to share old photos, artifacts and many memories of All Souls.  Thank you also to the choir for beautifully serenading us all and our children who worked as tour guides for the morning.

Monday morning assembly – Woodland Trust

By Mr A Cooke24th September 2018

This morning, we started to get excited as a school about the impending arrival of 200 saplings from the Woodland Trust, which are due to be delivered during November.

We listened to the story of the ‘Man who planted trees’ and talked about the importance of trees and how we, as individuals, can make a difference to the world.

During November, we will be creating our own school woodland area on a section of the school field and the children, with the help of adults from the community, will have the opportunity to plant trees which we hope will be around for generations to come.

We are also excited to be working towards the ‘Green Tree Schools Award’ this year and have our sights set firmly on achieving platinum status!
