Safer Internet Day

Today, as a school, we are celebrating ‘Safer Internet Day’, the annual, worldwide celebration of raising awareness of the many benefits and challenges that we face online.  We kicked the day off with a whole school assembly, supported by members of the school’s Digital Council, and, throughout the day, children will be continuing to explore the message of ‘Let’s talk about it’ in their classrooms.

The following letter was also emailed out to parents on Friday and contains further information and activities so that this important work can continue at home.

Open Evenings Spring 2023

Our Spring term open evenings will take place on Tuesday 28th February and Thursday 1st March.  This is the week immediately after the half-term break.  At these appointments you will have the opportunity to discuss your child’s attainment, progress and current targets as well as being able to see the work that they have produced so far this year.  Please book your appointment using the link or form below:

Ukulele Magic!

I had a wonderful first Ukulele session this week with both Year 5 and Year 6.  We learnt about the different parts of the Ukulele, how to hold it correctly and our first two chords: C major and A minor.  We also managed to play (and sing!) our fist song together – a version of Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’.  I can’t wait now for next week!

Open Evening Tuesday 18th / Wednesday 19th October

On Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th October we will be holding our first open evening of the year.  This will give you the opportunity to meet with your child’s class teacher to see how they have settled into their new year group and the new academic year.

Appointments will be held in person in the main school hall between 3:30 and 6:30pm each evening.

Music of the Week – 26/09/2022

During our morning assembly today the children were introduced to our new ‘Music of the Week’ initiative. A piece of music has been carefully selected for each week of the academic year and the music will be playing as children enter and leave assemblies throughout the week. The music has been selected from periods in history dating back to the Baroque period (approx 1600AD). Details of the name of the music and composer will be on display in the school hall all week and teachers also have access to the weekly poster and music so may also share and use the music within the classrooms. I will also aim to share the music and a link on the school website so that you can listen to and share the music at home with your child.

This week’s piece ‘Aquarium’ is was written by French composer Camille Saint-Saens in 1922 and is from his musical suite of fourteen movements, The Carnival of the Animals. You may recognise it as it has been used many times on television and in film.

‘Queen Elizabeth: A Platinum Jubilee Celebration’

You may be aware that, as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, the Government decided to produce a commemorative book which would be issued to all Primary aged children.

We are delighted to say that these have now arrived in school and between now and the end of the week, the children in Reception through to Year 6 will each be given a copy to take home and cherish.

The book does have a reading age of approximately 9-10 years and so younger children will need an adult to support them in accessing and sharing the book.
