Today Year 4 have thought about our use of the internet and considered which sites and apps are suitable to use at our age. We’ve challenged ourselves to make an A to Z of internet sites, apps, celebrities and games. How many can you do? Can you get all the letters?
As part of our learning of Safer Internet day, we talked about things we like to do online, from reading to gaming, facetiming family and watching Netflix. We ordered them and compared our preferences with our friends.
We also talked about what we should do if we see something online that we don’t like and read the story ‘Hanni and the Magic Window’.
Today, as a school, we are celebrating ‘Safer Internet Day’, the annual, worldwide celebration of raising awareness of the many benefits and challenges that we face online. We kicked the day off with a whole school assembly, supported by members of the school’s Digital Council, and, throughout the day, children will be continuing to explore the message of ‘Let’s talk about it’ in their classrooms.
The following letter was also emailed out to parents on Friday and contains further information and activities so that this important work can continue at home.
We used familiar fairy tales and gave the characters different dilemmas that the children had to help them with so they could make the right choice and stay safe. Today we read Goldilocks and the Three Bears and talked about not talking to strangers ( and definitely not walk into their house and eat their porridge!) and who we would ask for help if we got lost in the supermarket.
In Reception we used the characters in the Traditional Tales stories to help us understand what we should do to keep safe online. We talked about how we should not go off with anyone we do not know and if we get any funny messages or pictures on our tablets we should let an adult know.
We all cut out a jigsaw to remind us how to keep safe.
This morning, the children in Year 1 enjoyed listening to the story of Digiduck and the Magic Castle.

The children were very engaged and keen to learn about how to keep safe when using online games.
To celebrate Safer Internet Day 2022, we kicked off the morning by sharing in an assembly with the rest of KS2 exploring respect and online relationships.
This year’s theme ‘All fun and games?’ got us discussing the best parts of being online: video calling friends and family, chatting with our friends, learning new things, watching videos and playing games.
We focused more on online gaming, exploring what we gain from online gaming and also the dangers. After naming our alien friend from Planet Gnimag, ‘Enilno’, we told him (and Mrs Hartwell who may as well have been an alien when it came to online gaming) all about the fantastic benefits it has to offer but also warned them both about the dangers and risks it poses. We decided it was best to give them both some of our best advice!

Today Year 4 have learnt about how to responsibly use the internet for playing games with others. Here are a few of their top tips when gaming online.
Year 3 have been learning how to stay safe when online gaming. They wrote advice to people online who felt under pressure as well as for those players putting pressure on others. In groups, we made posters on what to do online.
Year 5 have been learning how to stay safe when online gaming. They wrote advice to people online who felt under pressure as well as for those players putting pressure on others.
After that, they created a display to remind us how we can ensure that everyone feels safe, happy and respected when playing together online.
