Our recent Science learning is all about PLANTS.
The children in Year 2 have enjoyed exploring, comparing and investigating seeds and bulb. Learning about the conditions for growth and carrying out an investigation to test out their predictions!

The children have been really enthusiastic recently rehearsing Year 1 prayers and learning Year 2 prayers. Enjoying quiet reflection time alone or sharing with each other.
Year 2 had a great time hunting for 2D and 3D shapes them making 2D shapes in nature. A great way to consolidate learning form the previous week.
Year 2 had a lovely time completing their Art ‘Draw and Explore’ unit.
After learning about some real artists and their work, the children explored the school grounds to find their own inspiration. They looked for patterns, colours, shapes and lines. They took photos of what they found, then used the items they found in nature to create their own shapes and patterns and sketched these.
This week they explored using a variety of media and then created images of their chosen item of nature using the various media. This was lots of fun and quite exciting!
As part of ‘Odd Socks Day 2023’ the Year 2 children attended a whole school assembly.
Back in class they enjoyed listening to the important messages of anti bullying, through listening to ‘Andy and the Odd Socks’ band singing ‘Make some Noise!’ joining in with the song/rap reinforcing the message.
They then discussed ‘kindness’ and what this looks like and feels like for them. Finally they designed their own odd socks and added a kindness related word!
The children walked beautifully ALL the way to the Skydome.
We stopped off for lunch just before the film. The children were very well behaved and were complemented by the Skydome staff on their tidying up after lunch and lining up in the corridors.
We all loved the film and all super stars during the film too!
Coventry Compass provided All Souls with an assembly and activities to support a better understanding around emotions and how they might feel and look for different people. That all emotions and feelings are ok as long as we recognise them and know how to manage them. The message was that we all go through a range of emotions each day and manage these really well.
The children enjoyed making ’emotion frieze frames’ and their partners had to guess how they were feeling. This was a great way to reinforce that feelings may look similar but feel different.
‘Gerald the giraffe’ thoroughly enjoyed supporting the children in writing their character descriptions. He is a very shy and clumsy giraffe called Gerald from the book Giraffes can’t Dance by Giles Andreae.
They wrote their character descriptions and published them onto fancy paper with additional giraffe body parts to enhance them further! Year 6 really enjoyed sharing and really made the Year 2 children feel proud of their work. Great job All Souls children!
Philippa came to visit Year 2 as a VIP reader and shared a part of the story -The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. Phillipa had brought a copy that she was given as a gift from her mother when she was just aged 5. The children were quite excited and learned quickly not to ‘judge a book by it’s cover’. The book was very old and had no illustrations on the cover and minimal illustrations inside. This did not stop them from listening carefully and enjoying the experience and enjoyment.
Philippa also shared her love of visiting the library and had brought along a selection of lovely picture books from the library to share and inspire the children.
The children have said they would like Philippa to return and share another book another day!

The children really enjoyed exploring Fr Paul’s garden in search of small creatures and mini beasts. This was our hook lesson getting excited about creating some interesting creatures to write our Non-Chronological Reports. We can’t wait to invite Fr Paul into school to read our final reports!
The sun shone brightly for us which was brilliant after such a soggy weekend! We even popped into the prayer garden to say a prayer of thanks.
