Thank you to everyone who was able to join Year 5 for our Advent workshop today. The children loved having the opportunity to bring invite their grown ups into our classroom and share in this special season or prayer and preparation together.
Year 5 have been practising their pontilism skills and created their own depiction of Jesus’ Baptism as their final pieces.
The children and staff have been busy in Year 5, preparing their hearts and minds for the season of Advent.
Throughout this season of Advent, Year 5 have been given the mission of being a Secret Saint to another member of our class. Each day, they will have special acts of kindness to carry out. This is to help us take daily moments to pause the hustle and bustle of everyday school life and prepare our hearts and minds for the second coming of Jesus.
We are celebrating Maths Week England by taking part in a friendly times tables (and division) competition. The competition runs from 07:30 GMT Monday 14th November to 19:30 GMT Wednesday 16th November. It’s all done online via play.ttrockstars.com
Children can play in any gamemode with every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, earning themselves, their class and the school a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours, subject to a daily 60-minute limit (see below)). Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.
To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60-minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60-minutes between 07:30 GMT and 19:30 GMT on 07:30 GMT Monday 14th November to 19:30 GMT Wednesday 16th November. Once the player goes beyond 60-minutes of play on that day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition.
Thank you to every child, parent and member of staff who entered our JLT competition, ‘What makes me happy’. We loved reading each and every entry and it made us happy to read all about what makes you happy!
We were very pleased to announce the winners in this morning’s assembly. Well done to Mrs McGrath who won the teachers’ competition, Mrs Smith who won the parents’ competition and Milosz in Year 3 who won the £10 Amazon voucher to spend on lots of books!
Year 5 really enjoyed their ‘Engineers without Borders’ workshop today in which they explored the importance of electricity, learnt how access to it is not equal, considered the engineers’ role in bringing about access to electricity and the challenges they face and created their own model turbines!
Year 5 and Year 1 loved having the opportunity to join one another for story time today – what a perfect way to end a busy week!
Thank you to the JLT for organising 🙂
Today we joined together in prayer and remembrance for the faithful departed as we celebrated mass on the Feast of All Souls.
The children represented the school perfectly and received so many kind comments regarding their impeccable behaviour and beautiful singing. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us.
The Junior Leadership Team have been busy this half term considering how they can continue to have a positive impact on the teaching and learning at All Souls. One of their main aims this year is to help increase the attainment and enjoyment in English for all.
The JLT decided they wanted to hold a writing competition to involve as many children and grown ups in our school community as possible and so we need YOUR help! It’s as a easy as taking time time this half term to reflect and ask yourself: ‘What makes me happy?’. Then, get creative and have lots of fun as you write your own piece of poetry to share with others about what makes you happy!
There are exciting prizes to be won so what are you waiting for? Get those entries in by either handing them into the school office FAO Mrs Hartwell or send them by email to [email protected]
