Year 6 children who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation are invited to our family mass on Sunday 7th November 2021 to make their commitments.
This is a very special mass, in which children of Year 6 will take on more responsibility within and outside of the mass, and offer up their prayers of commitment to our Lord.
We would love as many parents, families and Sponsors as possible there to join us.
Year 6 wore green and made donations of money and food today in support of CAFOD’s Go Green campaign!
Together we helped shine a light on some of the causes of the climate emergency while doing our bit to guard God’s creation and protect our common home.
Thank you to Lawrence Prestidge for visiting our school to hold and Q&A event for Years 5 and 6 today. We really enjoyed finding out more about why he became an author as well as his favourite books and authors. The best bit was listening to him read a snippet of his newest book, ‘Terror at the Sweet Shop’ before he signed the books that some of us had bought!
Ahead of ‘Going Green for CAFOD’, Year 6 visited our local Crow Recycling Centre to learn about what happens to our recycled goods and the importance of re-using as well as recycling where possible.
We volunteered our time to sort through the paper, card and magazines ready to recycle.
We shredded the confidential paper ready to be made into bails to be re-used for things such as bedding for animals. We even took some back to school for our guinea pigs!
We also used our knowledge of steel and aluminum to sort the metal cans and tins into separate groups ready to be crushed. We got to watch the crushing in action as they were made into ‘biscuits’ that weighed more than you think!
Year 6 were fortunate enough to be visited by Rupesh from the British Red Cross to teach us some basic first aid skills and give us some advice about keeping calm and calling for help in a crisis.
One of the responsibilities that comes with being Year 6 is becoming a prayer friend to a child in Reception. Both classes were so excited to meet this week and find out who their prayer is. We then shared in our first of many collective worships to begin our journey through faith together.
Our Class Saint is Saint Pope John Paul II.
Saint Pope John Paul II is the Patron Saint of World Youth Day and his special feast day is October 22nd.
To celebrate this special feast day, Year 6 are invited to come into school in non-school uniform wearing the colours blue, yellow or red to symbolise his coat of arms.
During this day, we will complete various activities to find out more about our class Saint and learn about what makes him so special.
Because he was Polish, we are asking children to bring in a Polish item of food (sweet or savoury, home-baked or shop-bought) so that we can share in some tasty treats as part of our celebrations!
Year 6 embraced the rain today and released their beautiful singing voices and dance moves to tick one of their 101 things from the All Souls’ Pledge off!
We loved using the place value counters to create, calculate and prove it!
We also enjoyed using dice and the game Yahtzee to put our skills into practice and compete against our partners!
