Year 6 have just finished their unit on Evolution and Inheritance and have loved looking at how different animals have adapted to different environments, how living things have changed over time and how the finches of the Galapagos Islands helped Charles Darwin’s contributions to the Theory of Evolution.

Our next unit if Electricity and the children have already been getting familiar with all of the different components that make up a circuit. Next week we will be investigating the brightness of bulbs in associaion with the level of amps.

After these four children deservedly received their pen licences today, we now have a total of 20 children in Year 6 with the licence to write in pen!

We are so pleased with how hard they’ve worked to perfect their cursive writing and they were equally chuffed (and somewhat shocked!) to hear their names being announced!

As part of our Evolution and Inheritance unit, Year 6 spent the afternoon as ‘birds’ exploring which ‘beak’ was the most suited to the ‘food’ available on its ‘island’.This helped us to understand how Charles Darwin’s visit to the Galapagos Islands and study of the finches that inhabited them, supported his theory of natural selection.

Thank you to every child who put so much thought into their recent home study task. This was an extra special one as children were asked to research a Saint whose name they would like to choose to adopt as part of their preparation for receiving the Sacrament of  Confirmation.

We will be holidng our annual Speed Sainting event soon where you will get the opportunity to come and find out about the Saints that children have chosen. But, for now, here is a sneaky little peak at who they’ve chosen!
