Thank you to all the children, families and sponsors who came along to our annual ‘Silence and Chips’ event. It was great to see so many of you there sharing in such a special occasion.

At Benediction, the blessing is given in a very special way.  Instead of the priest blessing the people with his or her hands, we are blessed by the ‘Real Presence’ of Jesus Christ in the Host consecrated at the Eucharist.  This blessing reminds us of Jesus’ presence among us in the breaking of the bread.  It is a sign that He is powerfully present with us, sacramentally in the Eucharistic elements ‘until the end of the age’ (Matthew: 28: 20). While we continue our earthly pilgrimage we need these signs – sacraments – of Christ’s presence to sustain us until the day when Christ will come in glory and we shall see him with unveiled faces – the day that all sacraments will cease.

The Extraordinary Month of Mission 2019

Pope Francis has declared October 2019 to be an Extraordinary Month of Mission.This special month of prayer and action calls us all to renew our missionary commitment. We’re called to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with all peoples.

Year 6 are trying really hard to follow our class calendar and complete each task.

We have made a really good start by brining in all our spare pennies to add to our EMM collection.

We discussed the extraordinary things we could do throughout this monthto make a difference before making our individual promises!

Year Six brightened up this harvest to build a brighter world!

CAFOD believe in a better world, where no one lives in poverty and each of us can become the best person we can be. In a world without poverty, people have clean, safe water to drink and enough food to eat. Everyone has a safe home, children can go to school, and anyone who is sick can visit a doctor or nurse. CAFOD works together with poor communities around the world to end poverty and all of your generous donations today have really helped towards that goal!

As it is October, the month of the Most Holy Rosary, Year 6 have created their very own Rosary to help them in prayer. We joined together in the hall to remind ourselves of the purpose of the Rosary and how we pray the Rosary. We have all promised to dedicate more time to praying the Rosary, particularly during this month of October and the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7th.

Year 6 have been working hard to improve their accuracy of formal written methods for subtraction and addition. They had to calculate a number of problems today to solve the answers and reveal the mystery winning word!

Melania, Frank and Jan led another lovely shared prayer service with Year 6 and Reception today based on the theme of ‘Forgiveness’.

Today, Year 6 were visited by Rupesh from the British Red Cross to teach them some basic First Aid skills.

Through role play, we explored what to do if someone broke a bone, burnt themselves, swallowed something toxic, bled heavily, amongst many other scenarios. We learnt how to help someone who is unresponsive and breathing/not breathing and practised CPR on Little Anne. We dicussed the importance of assessing and managing risks to make informed choices when helping others but most importantly, we built the confidence and willingness to help in a first aid emergency.

It was so lovely to see so many of our Year 7s return to join our current Year 6s for our annual ‘Pizza & Chips’ event!

It was great to hear how brilliantly they are all getting on in their secondary schools and Year 6 made the most out of asking them so many questions about what life is like for them now. I think they’d all agree it was a very worthwhile catch up!
