It has been a tradition for the last few years for Bishop Ullathorne and its feeder schools to hold a Y6 & 7 Mass at St Thomas More at the beginning of the academic year.

The Mass will be celebrated this Friday 20^th September during the school day and we will return to school at approximately 3pm.

It has also been custom for the Year 7 past pupils to return to All Souls’ at the end of the school day and spend some time chatting with the current Y6 about transferring to secondary school whilst enjoying a bite to eat with some pizza and chips!

If your child can attend, there is no need to collect them at 3.15pm.  They will be finished at 5pm and can be collected then or please indicate on the reply slip sent home today if your child has permission to walk home and this is what you would like them to do. Please note this option is only available to those children whose parents have completed a consent form for them to do so.

We hope to see as many of the children there as possible as it always turns out to be a worthwhile experience!

Year 6 visited Coventry’s Crow Recycling Centre today to see just what happens to all of the recylclable materials.

They had lots of fun getting stuck into the acitivities that take place there, from sorting aluminium and steel cans by testing their magnetism, sorting paper (confidential and non-confidential), shredding, baling and stacking!

Thank you to Lucy, Paul and Neville at the centre who supported us today and helped us to realise even more the importance in recycling!

We are collecting the ALDI stickers – we need 300 to fill our chart which we
can exchange for sports kit. We will then be entered in to the draw to win

Year 6 really enjoyed playing our own version of Yahtzee today! They had to use the dice to create 7-digit numbers that met different criteria whilst competing against their team to also create the highest possible number for that category. It really got their brains working as they had to reason through their choices. Our classroom was full of so much mathematical vocabulary (in between the screams of glee and groans of frustration!).

Year 6 took part in their first shared class liturgy of the year today in our lovely prayer garden. Children helped to read scripture based on the theme of ‘New Beginnings’ before we shared our resolutions for the new acadmic year ahead.

Year 6 were reverent and active as they led us in the readings and bidding prayers of our first whole school mass this morning. They are looking forward to finding out who their prayer friends are in Reception at the end of the week and helping them in their faith journey too.

Firstly, I hope you all had a lovely summer break and it’s great to welcome all the children back to school.  This is a very important year for your child and family as they will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday 17^th May 2020.

Whilst the children will be undertake the majority of their preparation to receive the Sacrament in school, a vital part of the faith journey is the support they receive from their parents and the parish.  This is such an important experience for your child.  We acknowledge that parents are the first faith educators of their children but it is the role of the parish and school to support them in this.  With this in mind Fr Michael has arranged a programme centred on the Easter Vigil for those children wishing to receive the Sacrament and their parent(s).  As you may be aware, Fr Michael is leaving All Souls this month to take up a position within the Diocese of Plymouth and Fr Paul Burch has been appointed as the new Parish Priest at All Souls.  Therefore the programme  will be led by Fr Paul and Barbara McGowan (parish catechist) and supported by the school.  The programme is as follows:

As you can see, the first session is interestingly called ‘Silence & Chips’.  This will take the form of a period of silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament and then a fish and chip supper to celebrate the start of the program.

Please return the reply slip attached to the letter sent out via email acknowledging receipt of this information and indicating your menu preference for those parents and Y6 children having a fish and chip supper. Please return it to school by Wednesday 18^th September 2019.
