Transition Day

By Mrs J Hartwell4th July 2019

Year 5 have really enjoyed exploring what it is going to be like to be a member of the Year 6 classroom. Here are some of their fabulous pixel pictures and biographical poems that will look great on display!

We began the day with some handwriting to get ready to hopefully earn some more pen licences before competing in a Spelling Bee competition. Congratulations to Bethlehem who won some sweeties for their excellent efforts!

In Engish, the children were set the task of writing a piece of persuasive writing to persuade me, Miss Quinn and Mrs McCloskey to let them be a part of Year 6 next year. After reading them all, we have decided to give them the chance to keep to their (very!) persuasive promises and allow them to enter Year 6 in September!

In teams of three, children then had to work against the clock to solve some mathematical problems, focusing on using the inverse operations. Each problem gave them a digit to the four-digit-code they needed to unlock their padlock. Once they had calculated their four digits, they then had to work together to try and find all possible combinations to hopefully unlock the box! Some children managed this a lot soon than others but they all managed to free their hidden treasure eventually!

In the afternoon, they became scientists! Their task was to use a range of equipment that they had been given to carry out an investigation based around a question of their choice. They all had lots of fun doing it – ask them what they found out!

Finally, we ended the day by revealing our first class reader. After listening to the first couple of pages of each book, the class then voted for their favourite before revealing the winning book and delving in!

We are all really looking forward to welcoming everyone back in September!

Year 6 are going to London!

By Mrs J Hartwell6th June 2019

As a reward for contributing to what has been a fantastic year, we have organised a trip for Year 6 to be tourists in London on Friday 12th July 2019. This is another exciting opportunity to make a few more memories as a class before the end of their time at All Souls’. Our day out as tourists will involve travelling to and from London by minibus, catching a tube into the centre of London, hopping on and off an open-top bus tour to see some of London’s most famous sights, eating our packed lunches in one of London’s many parks and a visit to pose with lots of famous people in Madam Tussaud’s!

It will be an early start (aiming to depart school at 6.30am) and a late return (approximately 9pm) as we have lots to fit in! Timings and further details will be confirmed closer to the time. The cost of this trip is in excess of £40pp; however, we understand that school trips and events are costly at this time of year. Therefore, as it is their last trip here at All Souls’, we are making a substantial contribution reducing the total amount payable to £22 per child.

Children will need to wear their school tracksuit and appropriate footwear. Each child should bring a small rucksack in which they can carry a waterproof coat, refillable water bottle, snacks for throughout the day and a packed lunch for our picnic in the park. Due to being out all day, the children will end their day with a trip to McDonald’s (included in the total price) before returning home. Children are invited to bring with them some spending money to buy souvenirs (we recommend approximately £10 but this is at your discretion and the responsibility of each child).

Furthermore, every good tourist needs a good camera so children are welcome to bring a camera or their phone with them to take endless selfies. However, if your child chooses to bring their phone, this would be at their own risk. Please also be aware that they would be asked to put them on airplane mode as they would not be allowed to use them for any form of communication throughout the day.

Finally, I apologise for the late notice; as I am sure you are aware, it has been a busy few weeks in Year 6. I kindly ask you to complete the consent form and make payment via Sims Agora no later than Monday 1st July 2019.

Thank you for your continued support! 🙂

30 Days Wild

By Mrs J Hartwell6th June 2019

Year 6 are taking part in the Wildlife Trust’s 30 days wild which began this week. So far we have got closer to nature by taking our shoes and socks off and feeling the grass between our toes, gazing at the clouds whilst trying to spot any shapes we could see and hunting for minibeasts! We are looking forward to seeing what other random acts of wildness we have in store for the rest of June.

Congratulations to those in Year 6 who received the Sacrament of Confirmation today. The service was beautiful and reverent and it was lovely to see so many friends and family support them in taking this next step of their faith journey.

May the strength of the Holy Spirit continue to guide you on your paths.
