Thanks for a great time at the cinema today Year 5 and Year 3!

You were all brilliantly behaved and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time!

Yesterday, Year 5 had an eventful (and very tiring!) day out in Coventry.

First, we went to the Coventry Building Soicety on High Street to see how what we learn in our maths lessons is applied in different jobs of people working at the society. We took part in lots of different activities and even had a go at being cashiers in the mock-up branch!

We also visited the ruins of the cathedral to look at the impact that the Blitz had on our city to link with our WW2 History topic.

We refueled for the walk home by going to McDonald’s!

We had a great day out!

Please remember that all Year 5s should be in school for 8:20 am tomorrow so that we are ready to leave at 8:30 am promptly for our session with the Coventry Building Society.

If your child is having a McDonald’s, please remember that they should bring in a maximum of £5 and this money needs to be in a clearly named food bag/purse.

The weather is forecast to be wet so all children must come to school with a coat.

Year 5 loved wearing spotty clothes and bringing in their bears for the teddy bear’s picnic today, all in support of Children In Need! Thank you for all your donations to the picnic and for all the money collected for this wonderful charity.

Today, Year 5 showed off what they have learnt about the early events of WW2 by making a human timeline!

Year 5 are supporting Anti Bullying Week 2017!

We have looked at different scenarios of bullying and have refreshed our memories on what to do should we see or experience any incidents of bullying taking place.

At All Souls’, we know that everyone is #alldifferentallequal and we celebrate the differences that God has given us!

On Tuesday 21st November, Year 5 will be walking into the city centre to take part in a session led by the Coventry Building Society at their branch on High Street. The team at the building society aim to bring maths and its links to the world of work to life. The children will meet with various members of staff  and find out how they each use maths in their roles. They will also learn about the company and what building societies do, before they go on a tour of the branch.  The real fun begins though when they have the opportunity to take on the role of a cashier, getting behind the counter and processing mock transactions!

Following this, we are going to then walk to the cathedral to have a look around. We will particularly be focusing on the ruins, linking to our current  History topic of The Blitz.

To get some energy for the walk back, we will be going to McDonald’s for lunch! Your child can bring a maximum of £5 to school with them on this day to spend on their lunch. If your child prefers, they are more than welcome to bring a packed lunch instead that they can eat in McDonald’s. Please ensure that all money is in a purse/food bag and  is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

To get to the Coventry Building Society in time for the session to start, it is important that we leave school at 8:30 am. Please ensure that your child is in school for 8:20 am so I have time to register the children and leave promptly at 8:30 am.

We’ve had a very enjoyable week in Year 5 and have learnt lots!

We have now finished our reports about Planet Pandora in Literacy and are also coming to the end of our Maths topic on multiplication and division. Yesterday, we put our maths skills to the test when we applied all that we have been learning into solving tricky problems in pairs. It was very challenging but with some good teamwork and determination, we were able to solve the problems!

Our week was rounded off nicely today with World Science Day. Our famous scientist that we focused on was Edward Jenner. We learnt all about his famous invention of the vaccine and thought about how his discovery has had a massive impact on our lives today. Ask us to tell you all about him! We also had a visit from some critter friends – thank you to Mr Rolinson for teaching us all about them! Some of us were even brave enough to have a hold of the minibeasts!

We also were lucky enough to take part in a fencing session which was so much fun!
