In English today, Year 5 wrote an explanation about Tasseomancy – the art of reading tea leaves. We then pretended we were in Professor Trewlaney’s Divination class and had a go ourselves! I hope no-one saw The Grim! Eek!

Monday
Don’t forget that we have our Harry Potter themed day on Monday! The children are welcome to come to school dressed up!

Tuesday
On Tuesday, we will be making our Rocky Roads and so the children need to bring in their additional ingredients that they wish to use (for example, marshmallows, raisins etc.) No nuts please!
Additionally, any outstanding Alton Castle medical forms must be returned as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support.
Year 5 have been very busy and active this week!
As part of our forces topic, we showed off our scientific skills by using Newton Meters to measure the force of gravity acting on different objects.
We also finished our papier mache globes. They show our knowledge of the names and locations of the continents and oceans of the world.

The children also delivered the presentations they have been busy preparing about the sacrament of Baptism. I was blown away by the content of these and the way the children had worked together as a team to prepare them. This was a lovely way to end our Baptism topic and draw together everything we have learnt. We are now looking forward to moving on to learning about Lent!
Another fantastic week of learning Year 5 – well done!
After spending the week becoming internet safety experts, Year 5 have created posters to share their “Top Tips for Staying Safe Online”.
Here they are proudly showing off their advice:

The children then voted for the most informative poster. Well done to Lily and Ocean who received the most votes! We now know who to come to if we have any questions about staing safe online! Here are the winning posters:

#SID2018
Today, Year 5 have considered how the internet can be an amazing place…providing we use it safely!
We have looked at some of the dangers posed by the internet and some top tips for being a smart surfer.
This week, the children are encouraged to write down any questions or worries they have about using the internet and post it in our postbox. We’ll discuss these later on in the week to make sure everyone is feeling clear and confident about how to stay safe online.

Today is the deadline for payment of the deposit to secure your child’s place on the trip. If this is not yet paid or you are experiencing problems with the SIMS Agora system, please see the office at the earliest opportunity. Please remember that the deadline for full payment of the trip is Monday 26th February.
Your child should have brought home a consent and medical form for the visit. This must be filled out and returned to school as soon as possible please (and no later than Friday 9th February).
They should also now have a kit list of equipment they will need during their stay. Remember, we encourage you not to buy new, expensive clothing (in fact the older, the better) as the activities can get rather muddy! We also emphasise that plenty of socks will be required. Please could every item of clothing be labelled with your child’s name. Further copies of the kit kist are available at the office.
Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Thank you.
For our continents topic, Year 5 are creating papier mache globes! We can’t wait to show you them when they’re finished – watch this space!
Year 5 would like to thank their friends in Year 4 who delivered beautiful prayer services to us.
The prayer services focused on the importance of love and being kind and helped us to reflect on how we can become better disciples of Jesus in our everyday lives.
