Welcome back and Welcome to Year 1!
It has been wonderful to welcome all of your children back to All Souls’ today! They all came in smiling and ready to learn.
We had a busy day getting to know our classroom, new teachers and new routines. The children have all embraced the change brilliantly.
Our day started with an assembly where we spent time reflecting on the year ahead with Mr Cooke, Mrs McGrath and Mrs Hartwell. After assembly we discussed our summer and all the experiences we have had both close to home and further afield. The children have spent time sharing the story of the colour monster and talking about our feelings. We will continue to look at this story throughout the week.
We also discussed some rules for our classroom environment so that our classroom is a positive, fun and welcoming place where we can all do our best to learn. The children had some fantastic ideas of promises to include such as ” In Year 1, I will be kind to others and play fairly with my friends.” The class also had lots of time today to get to catch up after the holidays and learn through play while building lots of interesting models in the construction area, practicing their fine motor skills and building puzzles.
Mr Cooke came to visit and had a go at building his own construction model – Mrs McGrath complete with baby bump!
After such a fantastic day Mrs Atwal and I can’t wait to see all the fun we are going to have this year with our new class,
Mrs Corkerry
