Reception have been busy creating our very own art gallery. We read the story, ‘All are Welcome’ and have painted a self portrait to remind us all that we are all welcome in our school and church community. Parents and families – you are welcome too!

Thank you to our parents and grandparents who joined us for our Lent Workshop this week. We began with a lovely pilgrimage to our Church prayer garden in the gorgeous sunshine. We took the scenic route to help towards out Big Lent Walk! We had a lovely short prayer service when we got there. After, we headed back to school to make a cross ready to take to Church to be blessed on Sunday.
Reception had a wonderful visit to the cinema on Tuesday. We had a very wintery walk there in the snow which added to the excitement! We watched two Julia Donaldson short films – ‘Smeds and the Smoos’ and ‘Superworm’. Both were brilliant. The children’s behaviour was exceptional. It was a fabulous trip!

Reception have had a fantastic week learning all about Autumn. We began with an autumn walk around our school grounds. We loved exploring the leaves and trying to catch them as they fell! We enjoyed turning them into creatures when they had dried out. We used oil pastels to make some autumn leaves and have worked hard on some autumnal drawings. We also used cardboard tubes to make our own autumn trees too.
This week Reception began our learning based on the book ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy. We had great fun acting out the story and have been busy making our own rockets out of junk modelling!
We want to say a big thank you to our PTA. We now have a set of class reader books for each class which will make sure a range of books are read to the children over their time at All Souls. We will be hosting a book fair in the new year and following this, we hope to be able to add to the Nursery, Reception and Year 1 class reader sets .
It’s been all about repeated patterns this week in Reception! We have made them in so many different ways within our play. Our favourite was making a repeated pattern fruit skewer!
In RE, Reception have begun to learn about the Creation story. This week, we all made our own collage world using tissue paper which are now proudly displayed in our prayer area.
Reception had great fun being artists today. We learned about a local artist called Sir Terry Frost. He was born in Leamington. We looked on the map and discovered that is near to us! We love his art because its so bright and colourful. We also like how he used shapes in his artwork. We worked hard all day making our own pieces of art and they are now proudly displayed in our classroom and cloakroom.
This week in Reception we have been learning about the key events of Holy Week. We made palms, had our own last supper where we shared bread with our friends just like Jesus did and leant about Good Friday and the significance of the crucifix. We made our own crosses using the construction to remind us that Jesus dies on the cross.
