Year 4 were using a website today to edit photos and put themseleves somewhere they have never been before. They had to remove the background from their picture and replace it with a different picture.

Couple of examples
Year 3 have had a super busy start to the term!
Here are some of our highlights from the past two weeks:
– Writing our stories in the style of Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Wombat Goes Walkabout’.
– Learning how to do the written method for division!
– Finding out all about soil: what it’s made up of to the different types! (We even found some worms lurking about!)
– Locating oceans, seas and rivers.
– Going to our parish church to learn all about the rite of Baptism.
– Starting to learn how to play hockey! From holding the stick and dribbling, to how to do a push pass and stance. We will beat Miss Prior at ‘King of the Ring’!
– Following instructions (the good and the awful!) and writing our own ‘delicious’ sandwich recipes.
– Starting our new DT unit ‘Pop-up books’.
– Starting our new History unit ‘The Stone Age to the Iron Age’.

Note from Miss Prior to Parents/Guardians:
Please ensure your child is provided with both a full indoor and outdoor PE kit. It is essential your child has the correct outside kit and isn’t wearing their indoor kit outside. Pumps can be dangerous on the wet ground and your child’s feet can get wet/cold, therefore trainers are part of their outdoor PE kit.

Hi everyone, welcome back! We hope you have all had a fantastic half term and ready for the term ahead.
We have lots of fun activities planned for this term which include instructional writing, The Stone Age, pop-up books and much, much more!
Please note that PE this term is on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure children have both their full indoor and outdoor PE kit.

Y4 had such a fantastic day at Ryton Pools. We learnt whittling, navigating our way around the park using a compass, den building, fire building and we had the opportunity to toast marshmallows on a large bonfire, ( this being Miss Cowley and Miss McGinns favourite part!!!) using the tools we had made.
The weather was on our side and the children worked extremely well in all the team building activities. We didn’t want to leave!!

We have been very busy in Year 3 the past few weeks!
First of all, I would like to thank all parents for their time at parents evening. It was wonderful to see you all and put a face to a name! I hope we can continue to celebrate your child’s successes and I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Our highlights:
– Learning about the durability of rocks.
– Finding out which rocks are permeable and impermeable.
– Learning about the Rosary. We will be praying the Rosary everyday during October. Some children have been helping to lead the pray.
– Using our ‘friends’ (place value headings) in maths
– Finding out more about Europe
– Sharing our findings from our history interviews
– Making more timelines!
– Learning more about orienteering – we’re getting really good =)
– Using all our skills to write a character description and a piece of dialogue
– Researching animals for our non-chronological report
– And of course… GOING TO TWYCROSS ZOO!

We have had a great week in Year 3 – Our highlights:
– Working with place value and place value headings (‘our friends’) in Maths.
– Learning about the calling of the disciples and thinking about what it must have felt like being one of those disciples.
– Finding out clever ways to make our writing more interesting – which may have involved Miss Prior acting very silly in class to show us what verbs are!
– Miss Prior’s prizes!
– Maths games.
– Starting to practise for our Cafod harvest assembly.
– Learning all about chronology and finding out about some big world events – we can’t wait for part 2 next week!

Note from Miss Prior to parents/guardians:
Our Sacramental Enrolment Mass at All Souls’ Church is on Sunday. Mass starts at 9:30am. Ms Croarken and I will be at the front of the church – we would love it if all Year 3 children could join us. After the mass, there is also a short meeting for parents and children to attend.
If your child is not receiving their First Confession and First Holy Communion, we would like to invite you to support those who are. Please feel free to join us at the front of the church too!

Thank you to all children and families who attended our Sacramental Enrolment Mass today! We are very proud of all the Year 3 children and thank those, both family and friends, who came to support.
Working together to build a jigsaw
Encouraging turn taking through measuring short periods of time in simple ways
Using the small world castles, knights and princesses to tell and retell stories
Recognising colours and using them to create simple paintings
Working together to recreate roles and experiences
Encouraging control and coordination over objects. Also recording and counting numbers.
Using familiar shapes and objects to build and construct.
Exploring the properties of wet and dry sand. Turn taking and working together to achieve a certain outcome.
Encouraging healthy eating and drinking. All children are entitled to free milk up to the age of five, and free fruit up to the age of seven.
We are lucky enough to have Mrs Tams with us one day a week. She speaks Polish and helps interpret the teaching and learning for children who need it.
Using the ducks to develop control and coordination over objects. Also counting and numeral recognition.
Mrs Brennan and Miss Widows visited us today to talk briefly about how they prepare and serve our delicious lunches.
