During our maths lessons this week, we have been learning how to calculate with decimals using money. Year 4 were tasked with finding out the cost of an initial stationery order for Year 4; we then rounded each item to the nearest pound to calculate the cost for the whole school. The children were shocked at the cost of whiteboard pens and other items that we use daily!

During this week, we have looked at the journey of the water cycle- we enjoyed researching this. In groups, we tried to answer the question, How does GPS work? As part of our English unit on instruction, we wrote about how to create a badge for science day! Our creations are in the pictures above! Look out for our class picture later of us all looking like super scientists!
On Wednesday, together with Year 3, we went to church to look at and talk about the Stations of the Cross. Father Michael some about each one with us and we knelt in prayer. At each station, we sung the short hymn- Jesus, remember me, when you come into your Kingdom.

Our Book Fair is beginning this week in the school hall, Wednesday 20th March- Wednesday 27th March.
The times it will be open in the school hall will be as follows:
Wednesday 20th: 3.15-3.45
Thursday 21st: 3.15-3.45
Friday 22nd: 3.15-3.45
Monday 25th: 8.20-8.45 & 3.15-3.45
Tuesday 26th: 3.15-3.45
Wednesday 27th: 8.20-8.45
Please do come along and support this venture. There will be books on sale from £2.99 and each child will receive a £1.00 World Book Day token to put towards the cost. School will receive commission from sales to purchase books fro class libraries.

Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed singing for an audience this morning! Well done to Holly & Sara for persevering with some technical issues!
What a fast song Rattlin’ Bog is! A great job and I’m sure they’ll be singing that one for many years to come!
We had a fantastic time for World Book Day yesterday; everybody, including staff, looked fabulous in their costumes! We had many activites across the school to celebrate our love of books and stories. Children swapped classes to hear a story being read by a different staff member, and took part in activites in those sessions, including making wands and flying kites!
KS2 children took part in the BBC Live Lesson where 3 well-known authors were on hand to answer questions and share extracts of their books. The lesson was interactive and many schools across the country took part so we were especially surprised when one of our photographs (which had been emailed in) was shown on screen along with our school shout out!
The rock creations were brilliant- thank you to everyone who participated. A winner was chosen from each year group and those children have received a £5.00 book voucher to spend at our Book Fair which is taking place from March 20th-27th. All children will receive a £1.00 WBD token to spend at the Fair. We will keep these until then to prevent them from being lost. Left-over vouchers will be distributed after the fair.

World Book Day!
Dear Parents,
Thursday 7th March is World Book Day; a day to help to foster a love of reading in our children. To celebrate this day at All Souls’, we have decided to have a dress up and activity day. Children are invited to dress up as a book character for the day (teaching staff will also be dressing up as a character from their favourite book!). During the course of the day, children will take part in a variety of activities both in their classrooms and across school.
Our annual competition this year is for children to produce a representation of their favourite story on a rock (think Isla’s Stones or Allesley Rocks). The rocks need to be brought into school on World Book Day and will be displayed in the hall for all children to view. A winner will be chosen from each class, and they will receive a £5.00 book token.

From Wednesday 20th-26th March we are holding a Scholastic Book Fair, in the school hall, where children and their families can browse and purchase books from £2.99. Children will also have been given a £1.00 Book Token to spend. Once we have made £300 worth of sales, school can access at least 25% of the amount to spend on books for our class reading areas. We hope that you will support this venture.

The assembly is at 9.15am tomorrow morning where children, who have been learning to play the guitar in school, will have a chance to play for friends and family.
