Year 4 are looking forward to presenting their assembly tomorrow, Monday, at 9.15am.

In Science, we have been busy learning how sounds are made and how our brains receive these messages. We have had some loud and quiet lessons investigating this!

To begin our preparations for Advent, we created some art work for our prayer area. We learnt about the meaning of Advent and how, during this season, we need to get ready for birth of Jesus at home, at school and in our hearts.

In Maths, we have been investigating lines of symmetry. We found this tricky but got there in the end! We will practise more of this throughout the year.
We are now busy preparing for our assembly on December 17th- all fo the children have taken home their lines to learn, and hymns to practise. We hope to see you all there.

Today we have been finding out about the Children in Need charity. We looked fabulous in our spotty wear- thank you to everyone who donated 🙂
Last week we contributed to a whole school display to commemorate the centenary of the end of WWI. We enjoyed painting the poppies, and think you will agree, that the display in the foyer is beautiful.
Continuing with our topic on Italy, we learnt about the features of mountains, how animals adapt to live on them, and why humans have chosen to live on them during the past centuries. We looked at Mont Blanc in Italy. Google Earth has given us the chance to look at some of these far off places, so that we can appreciate these arduous terrains.
We are thoroughly enjoying the Engage programme in Year 4, where we are perfecting our rugby skills and learning how to work together and show respect, which is particularly poignant this week as it’s Anti-Bullying Week. We’re now looking forward to Children in Need day, on Friday, when we will be arriving into school in our ‘spotty’ attire!
We have had a lovely start to the Autumn 2. This week we have begun our new English unit, Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone. First thing Monday morning, we were ‘sorted’ into house by the Sorting Hat. We found out which house we belong to: are we brave like Gryffindor, loyal like Hufflepuff, cunning like Slytherin, or wise like Ravenclaw? All of these attributes are worthy when used correctly. Want to find out which house you belong to? Watch this space for our descriptions of Diagon Alley. Many of the children have expressed an interest in bringing in their own Harry Potter book, which is fine, but please don’t read ahead of where we have got to!

During maths, we have been using our equipment to help us to understand column addition including exchanges. Using the place value counters and dienes equipment, we have been able to visually see what happens when we have to exchange across a tens or hundreds boundary, before moving to the abstract format.

We have begun Year 4 with a busy first half term! It has been a pleasure getting to know the class and watch them step up to Year 4. They have enjoyed two trips out of school already this year, and have been fantastic examples of our school on both occasions.
This week we showcased our work on Black History Month in assembly. We focused on the inspirational Michelle Obama who uses her status to promote education to all, including those who might not usually access it. The children chose a quote that meant a lot to them and we created an Adobe Spark clip- each group chose their quote, images of words and rehearsed speaking together, which they loved!
Have a lovely half term!
Reminder that Year 4 are going to Rock UK Outdoor Adventure Centre tomorrow. We will be leaving school at 8.10am and will return at 4.20pm. Please can children wear old clothes as well as bringing a spare set of clothes; they will also need to bring a towel with them. Lunch will be provided.
Please pass this on to any Year 4 parents who may not have seen the reminder.
Many thanks and we hope that they have a great day!

Year four have had a hectic, but fun, couple of weeks! We planned an experiment to find out which drinks cause the most damage to our teeth- ask us for the results! We wrote up the experiment considering the process of organising an experiment as we went along.
On National Poetry Day we took part in BBC Live Lesson, hosted by the performance poet, Joseph Coelho. We had to think of similes and metaphors, along with many other classes across teh country, to contribute to a poem created during the lesson.
We have been learning how to pray the Rosary in this special month of October.
And we were lucky enough to be treated to cakes and desserts on Tuesday!
Phew… we are looking forward to our last week of the half term.
Thank you to all parents who attended parents’ evening- it was great to meet you all.
Mrs McDevitt
We are taking part in the BBC live lesson, we celebrating National Poetry Day!

Year 4 enjoyed a visit to Pizza Express this week where we learnt about how to make a pizza. We were lucky enough to each make and take away our own- everyone thought that the Margherita pizzas were delicious! This visit was to support our D&T unit- Food, and we encorporated it with our unit Italy, which we are studying this term.

During our history unit Anglo- Saxons, we studied evidence to try to work out when these artefacts had been dug up. We worked out that it was approximately the year 625.

Year 4 have worked really hard this week. I hope everyone has a restful weekend and are fully energised and ready for learning next week!
