Diwali celebrations

We had a lovely day celebrating and finding out about the festival of Diwali. We made lamps, rangoli patterns, watched a video of how a young family prepare for the celebrations and tasted indian food.

We also worked in groups to make puppets and then perform infront of our friends the story of the 3 Little pigs. The children made some great puppets without support from an adult and we were really pleased with their efforts.

We are looking forward to the next half term where we will be looking at 3D shapes, practising for our Christmas play, role playing in the Post Office and outside in the Police Station.

 

Welcome Mass

Thank you to all the families who came along to join Father Michael welcome the children at this Sunday’s Mass.  It was good to have so many children celebrate the Sacrament and be welcomed to the community of All Souls. The children all sang beautifully and their art work looked fantastic at the front of the church.

We are going to be busy this week baking cakes, writing recipes, ordering numbers and exploring the world God made for us.

Reminder

Please can you provide your child with weather appropriate clothing and footwear on Tuesday. The weather looks like it could be wet  for our trip to the Memorial Park and so wellingtons would be the most suitable footwear.

 

Settling in !

The first week has been amazing. The children have settled very well.  They all worked hard and enjoyed exploring the new environment.  I think you may have had some very tired children!  The group have starting mixing and are beginning to make new friends.

We have spent the week completing assessments to give us the level to start the learning from.   This will continue over next week by which time we will have a full picture of all children.  We have already started phonics, reading and handwriting.  Please make sure that your child’s reading book and learning journey are back in school daily.

On Sunday 1st October we will be attending a Mass to welcome the children into the church and the schoool community.  Please try to support us sharing this Mass.

End of Year !

We had a lovely last day, all dressed in our favourite film costumes.  The children enjoyed the Year 6 leavers assembly and party food in the Nursery afterwards.  Some photographs of the day are included at the end of the post.  It was a very good year and the children have worked hard and made fantastic progress. We are looking forward to working with them next year and would like to wish ‘good luck’ to all those leaving us to attend a new school, we will miss you.

Thank you for all the lovely cards and gifts, they are very much appreciated and we loved the fact that some children were able to draw or write in the cards themselves.

We hope you all have a lovely summer break and the children stay safe and well and come back refreshed and excited for the year ahead.

Special Visitor

We have had a special visitor in Nursery today, Mrs McCloskey’s dog Doogle.  He was very happy to see us all and let Mrs McCloskey show us his leg that the vet mended. Some of us were brave enough to stroke him.  Below are some pictures of the visit.

Sprots Day

The Nursery will be taking part in this Friday’s Sports afternoon.  If you would like your child to take part, please bring them back to school at 1pm.  We will be doing a running race and a novelty race.  Foundation will race first and you will be able to collect your child after the race from Nursery to take them to watch the rest of the school or go home.

On Wednesday you are invited to watch the Foundation assembly.  This will take place at 9.15am and will last about twenty minutes.   Hope to see you there.

News

We are sorry that your child was unable to take part in the sponsored bounce this week but we will hold on to their permission slip for when the event can be rescheduled.

This week we will be practising writing our names, recognising numbers, realising that print carries meaning, sharing work with Reception and practising for our assembly.  Busy week!

Just a reminder that on Thursday 22nd June we will be holding our Reception parents evening.  This is your chance to meet the staff, find out start dates and ask any questions you may have about this exciting time in your child’s life.

 

Twycross Zoo

On Thursday we visited Twycross Zoo.  The children were amazing, so well behaved and interested in all the animals.  We saw elephants, monkeys, meer cats, butterflies and penguins to name just a few of the animals observed.  We are going to do some work in the classroom and with the reception children and then share this work with you at our Foundation Assembly.
