Well done on a great week Year 4!
By reading and orienteering maps correctly, we have located hidden tags around the playground in PE.
In music, Mrs Cooke has been helping us to learn the different eras of composed music and their matching instruments. This has resulted in some very interesting looking miming action!
Finally, this Friday children have brightened up for the celebration of harvest mass. Thank you to all families for your contributions.
Calling all artists!
Over the next few weeks, some updates to our Forest School site are being planned.
As part of this, an entrance sign is being made to guide people in to our Forest School area. We would love to have drawings from the artistic children of All Souls to decorate the sign!
We’d like to see creative, imaginative entries that show all the brilliant activities we take part in at Forest School.

Entries should be on a landscape piece of A4 paper with the entrants name clearly labelled on the back. Open to entries from YR-6, please hand in completed drawings to class teachers by Friday 14th October.

In this past week, Year 4 have taken time to examine the world around us in close detail. In our art lessons, we’ve matched the textures and patterns of surfaces around our classroom/
In Science, we’ve looked out for animals, plants and a few fungi that can be found around the school grounds. Ask Year 4 which group of living things we found most of.
We’ve also taken part in a tennis roadshow linking in with our tennis lessons in PE and challenged ourselves by using Gattegno grids for the first time to represent number in Maths.

For our first meeting of Lego Club, our team of Year 3 and 4s have loved learning to code through Lego motorised pieces and matching coding software before building some very imaginative creations.
Through Year 4’s first week, we’ve explored our recent past by unearthing a time capsule of letters and gone further into the past by examining Saint Kolbe’s (our class saint) act of heroism. We’ve also been on a virtual road trip across the cities of North America – all this resulting in an exhausting, but productive, first week back.
Well done to all of Year 4 on settling back so well and I look forward to getting stuck in to an excellent year.
This Thursday (16.6.22) Year 4 will be celebrating our class saint – Padre Pio. As part of this, year 4 children can come to school dressed in non-uniform. Children have been told they can theme this to the colours of the Italian flag (red, white and green) or in their own clothes in they would prefer.
We’ll find out more about the life of this fascinating saint, create some portrait pieces and enjoy a few Italian snacks.
This summer term, Year 4 have been lucky enough to take part in the First Lego League.
In these sessions, we’ve been working on our teamwork, imagination and perseverance to solve open ended problems with Lego building and coding.
So far, we’ve built a theme park ride, cargo sorting centre, programmed car and alarm system.
After a series of challenges, we’ll take our projects to a celebration event in Birmingham, so watch this space!
A big thank you to Warwick University who have provided funding and information to get the project off the ground.
This Thursday (26/05/22) Years 4, 5 and 6 will be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in the afternoon.
As part of this, children have been invited to come to school dressed in red, white and blue colours for no charge.
Additionally, we are asking children to bring in cakes, biscuits or other treats to share as part of a street party. Please ensure that items brought in contain no nuts.
Expect games, quizzes, arts and crafts to celebrate our monarch’s 70th year of reign.

This Wednesday, we have all enjoyed a day full of Science in celebration of British Science Week. This year’s theme has been “Growth”.
Each class has had a chance to try out a range of scientific activities around the school.
In the Year 3 classroom (and outside) children have created and tested penguin nests to protect eggs from wind, rain and predators and allow them to grow into the next generation.
Some nests were more successful than others:
In Year 5, children mixed a specific set of ingredients to create slime and observe how it grows when it stretches.
In Year 4, children observed how different animals grow and adapt in response to their surroundings. We drew our careful observations and classified the animals based on their specific features.
In Year 6, minds were boggled as lines and objects appeared to grow all by themselves as children discovered different optical illusions.

In Year 2, children tested out chemical reactions and measured how much balloons grew as a result of created gas. Which gas is made when bicarbonate of soda and vinegar are mixed?
Year 1 have been studying our neighbouring planet – Mars. Children have thought about how an animal may grow if it was living with Mars-like conditions of gravity, oxygen and weather.
Children also worked to create structures of how humans might develop and grow bases on Mars.
Finally, a big thank you to parents and children for some fantastic scientist costumes on display!
We will be celebrating British Science Week from the 14th – 18th March 2022.
British Science Week is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. The theme this year is ‘Growth’.
To celebrate, throughout the week, we will be doing lots of exploration around the theme of growth and the Science all around us which will involve a whole school carousel of investigations and maybe even some animals to meet.
On Wednesday 16th March, we are inviting children to come into school dressed as a famous or crazy Scientist for a £1 donation to go towards our Science curriculum.
