This week in Y2

This week we raised attention for the Ukraine conflict by wearing yellow and blue as part of our Catholic Life curriculum. Thank you for donations, too!

We also had three excited children who have bought a book with their poems in! There were other child who had their work in the book too, from our class and many others!

In Maths, we have been using counters to help our number bonds to 9 knowledge, as well as making arrays to solve multiplication problems.

 

And Edward shared with us all about his trip to the Natural History Museum. Thank you Edward!

Ice Experiment

The Reception children have been making the most of the weather and conducting some experiments.  We left out some cups of water of different heights/capacity to see what would happen.  The children predicted that they would all freeze.  When we went out to look the next morning all had frozen but some had not frozen to the bottom.  The children decided that this was because there was more water in those cups. 

Soup making in Y2!

We have had a great couple of afternoons trying and tasting soup!

First we tried different flavours of soup to decide which flavour soup we were going to make. Then we planned our soup and wrote down our ingredients.

Today we chopped our vegetables and added more ingredients like sugar, salt and stock and put it in the soup maker. Lots of us loved it!

Thank you to all the adults who came in to help and for bringing in their soup makers to borrow.

Young Voices 2023

We had a great time on Tuesday singing with 6000 other children as part of the Young Voices choir in Birmingham. It was great to sing the songs we have been learning since September with everyone. Thank you to parents for coming and supporting us too!

The children and staff have been busy in Year 5, preparing their hearts and minds for the season of Advent.

Throughout this season of Advent, Year 5 have been given the mission of being a Secret Saint to another member of our class. Each day, they will have special acts of kindness to carry out. This is to help us take daily moments to pause the hustle and bustle of everyday school life and prepare our hearts and minds for the second coming of Jesus.

27.5 hours per week

Term time only (39 weeks) plus 5 teacher training days

Grade 4 – £19,171 to £22,462 pro rata (actual salary approx.. £12,000 – £14,00 pa)

The Governors of All Souls’ Catholic Primary School seek to employ a part time handyman and key holder.

All Souls’ Catholic Primary School is a popular and successful Primary school located in the Chapelfields area of Coventry. We are proud of our well behaved and hardworking children and are fortunate to have supportive families, staff and Governors. Our new School Handyman will need to embrace this supportive ethos and take pride in their work and the school surroundings.

We are looking for someone who is extremely trustworthy, organised and able to plan their time effectively. Experience in carrying out basic building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry etc is desirable.  The role would suit a semi-retired retired individual seeking part time work, however, applications are welcomed from anyone with the relevant skills and experience.

Your daily duties will involve:

  • Opening and closing the school building/site and setting the alarm
  • General maintenance for buildings and surrounding area – handyman skills are a must
  • Event set up and take down (i.e., setting up the stage, putting out chairs, erecting marquees)
  • Working with the School Business Manager to ensure the safety and security of the site

Training will be provided where required.

Working pattern:

Monday to Friday            6:30am to 9am (open up at 6:30am)        4pm to 6pm (lock up at 6pm)

Additional 5 hours per week for maintenance tasks         Overtime when required

A degree of flexibility in relation to the working pattern outside of the opening and lock up times may be possible.

The position is part time (27.5 hours), term time (39 weeks) plus 5 teacher training days although the flexibility to work overtime during the school holiday period will be needed.

World Book Day

I hope that the children are having an enjoyable half term. Just a reminder that World Book Day is on Thursday, 1st March, 2018 and that the children can come to school dressed as a book character of their choice. Also, they can enter an in-house competition to paint a picture of a character or a scene from a book. Last year’s potato competition was very successful and we hope that this year’s painting competition will be just as popular with the children.

World Book Day 2018

World Book Day takes place on Thursday, 1st March, 2018. At school today, your child has been given a £1 World Book Day token. If, for any reason, your child hasn’t received a token, please ask him/her to see Mrs Hands.

On March 1st, your child may attend school dressed as his/her favourite book character. For this privilege the children will be asked to donate one pound and the money raised will be used towards helping to purchase new books for our school library.

Following the success of last year’s turning a potato into a book character competition, there will be the opportunity for each child to enter another in-house competition. This year, children are being asked to paint, on an A4 or A3 piece of paper, a picture of their favourite character or scene from a book. All of the paintings, which need to have the child’s name and year group printed on the back, can be brought into school from Monday, 26th February. On World Book Day, the paintings will be taken into the school hall and one winner will be chosen from each class. Every class will be given time to look at the paintings in the hall and they will then be displayed in school. It is important that the paintings are produced by the children and that they reflect their age and ability. Some other activities will be on offer during the day. In their English lessons, children will be asked to write a story of their own which includes the character that they have chosen to dress up as. They will also be asked to design a book mark, and children in certain year groups will swap classes briefly in order to share a story with a child from a different class.
