Happy Christmas

By Sarah Scofield17th December 2021

Hello Everyone,

We have been very low on numbers this week and we are very sorry we didn’t get to say goodbye to all our Nursery friends before Christmas and that some of them missed out on our Christmas festivities. Our Christmas dance and Nativity scene has been put onto Tapestry and hopefully it will be put onto the school website later on today – thank you Mr Youson for filming us and posting these for us. Despite being unable to sing to The Dementia group on Thursday, myself and Mrs McCloskey were able to take over your kind gifts of biscuits and chocolates which they were bowled over by, so a big, big thank you.

Finally, myself and Mrs McCloskey would like to say a big thank you for all your kind words, cards, gifts and support. Have a good Christmas and hopefully we will see you all back fit and well on 6th January. Happy Christmas everyone!

Down on the Farm

By Sarah Scofield10th December 2021

Hello Everyone,

What a magical day we all had on Monday at Ash End Farm. The children met and fed lots of different animals, they also did lots of singing to the animals, they dressed up and role played the nativity and they were so excited to meet Santa and recieve a present. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and our lady who looked after us said we were the best group she had met and she was very impressed with their behaviour and their beautiful singing – the children were brilliant!

On Tuesday the children performed their Christmas dance ( this will be put on the website next week) and they were lucky enough to meet Olaf the snowman! On Monday it is Christmas Jumper Day, on Thursday we are singing to the Dementia Group – any donations of biscuits/chocolates to give to the group will be gratefully recieved and on Friday we are having breakfast with Santa, so the children can come dressed in party clothes/ non- school uniform. Have a good weekend.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

By Sarah Scofield2nd December 2021

Hello Everyone,

There was great excitement on Monday with the arrival of snow which the children loved playing in. Father Paul also paid us a visit on Monday to introduce himself to the children and to talk about how he helps us and the community. We introduced our advent calendar on Wednesday so the children are waiting in anticipation each day to see if their name is pulled out of the box to be the recipient of the chocolate coin. This week we have also been making beautiful gold and silver stars for our Christmas cards and decorating purple advent candles.

Next week we will continue to sing our christmas songs ready to perform them to the dementia group on 16th December. We will start our ‘Nursery Rhyme of the Week’ and learning our new phonemes when we return after Christmas. Our trip to Ash End Farm on Monday should be a great experience for the children. The weather forecast is very cold so make sure the children are wrapped up warm and although most of the areas are under cover it would be advisable if the children wear wellies ( with several pairs of socks), boots or sturdy shoes. We will be taking flasks of hot chocolate and squash so the children are able to have a warm drink. The children have been practising a Christmas dance which is being filmed on Tuesday so could the children wear their pyjamas to Nursery on Tuesday (any pyjamas – they don’t have to be Christmas ones.) Next week we will also be finishing our Christmas cards and doing Christmas crafts. Have a good weekend and keep warm!

26.11.21

By Sarah Scofield26th November 2021

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday the children paid a visit to the church prayer garden, not only to say a little prayer but to raid the garden for evergreens to make our Advent wreath today. The children were very creative and we now have a beautiful Advent wreath to put on our prayer table and we also lit our first Advent candle today.

Our next three weeks are going to be very busy and we have a lot to cram in. Father Paul is coming to visit us on Monday to meet the children and to talk about his work and how he cares for us and the community. On Wednesday we will be introducing our class Advent calendar as well as using our Advent wreath as a focus. We will be finishing off our seasons calendars which you will receive at Christmas, starting our Christmas cards and each child will be making a Baby Jesus which can be used as a prayer focus at home. Our phoneme for next week is ‘i’ and our Nursery rhyme will be ‘The Grand Old Duke of York’.

This week we are going to be learning Christmas songs because on Thursday 16th December we will be going over to church with Reception class to sing songs to The Dementia Group. Nursery would also like to present the group with a basket of goodies for Christmas so we are asking if each child could donate some chocolate/biscuits for them – this would be very much appreciated. Take care and keep warm this weekend!

Seeing Spots

By Sarah Scofield19th November 2021

Hello Everyone,

The children looked great today in their spots/P.J’s/outfits and we have to say a big, big thankyou for your kind and generous donations – Nursery raised over £40, so well done! This week we also made spotty Pudsey headbands and we made spotty smarty cakes for our snack time today. To fit in with our theme on patterns our focus books this week have been ‘Elmer the Elephant’ and ‘Aliens Love Underpant’, so the children have had a go at designing their own Elmers and underpants.

This week we have also been thinking about people who care for us and look after us at home and in school. The children went down to the office and kitchen to talk to Mrs Cannon and the kitchen staff to find out the jobs they do and how they look after us. Mrs Rae and Mr Gale (our site manager) also popped into Nursery to talk to the children.

Our phoneme for next week is ‘p’ so anything the children find at home beginning with this letter sound could be sent into Nursery for our sound table. Because the weather this week has been relatively mild we have made the most of using the big playground which the children have loved. As you may know, we are due a cold snap next week so please make sure the children bring in hats, scarves and gloves ( I think hot chocolate may be on the menu for snack time!). Next Friday is Advent day in school and we will be making an Advent wreath with the children for our prayer table – any donations of evergreens/holly you may have in your garden would be greatly appreciated.Have a good weekend everyone and stay warm!

Pumpkins and Poppies

By Sarah Scofield12th November 2021

Hello Everyone,

Perhaps our phoneme for this week should have been ‘p’ as there has been a bit of a pumpkin and poppy theme going on. On Monday we eventually got round to making pumpkin soup – I have to be truthful and say they were far more excited about making it than eating it! Although I was impressed that the majority of children tasted it and some even enjoyed it!

We were very proud of the Nursery children yesterday – they stood silently for two minutes with the rest of the school to remember those who had died for us in the war and their poppy badges looked beautiful.

Next Friday it is Children in Need Day so the children can come to Nursery dressed in anything spotty or their pyjamas along wih any donation you may like to give. During the week we will have a focus on different patterns and a spot of baking will definitely be on the agenda. Our phoneme for next week is ‘t’ so it would be great if the children could bring in anything from home beginning with the letter sound ‘t’. Have a great weekend.

Spooks, Diwali and Fireworks!

By Sarah Scofield5th November 2021

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to the new half term. We have had a very busy first week back. Monday was dressing up day – there were some very scary children in Nursery that day! This week we have also been learning about Diwali, we made rangoli patterns with coloured rice, mandalas with playdough, pasta and seeds and Diwali cards as well as firework pictures. The children have also been recognising ‘S’ and the sound it makes at the beginning of words. Our phoneme next week is ‘a’. Because it is bonfire night tonight we will be carrying on with this theme next week – making model rockets etc. The children have loved looking after Ben and Hoola Hoop the school guinea pigs this week – they showed great care, being gentle and making sure they had plenty of food and water. We still haven’t made our pumpkin soup but my big pan and all the ingredients are here for Monday!  Have a good weekend and keep safe!

Smashing Pumpkins

By Sarah Scofield22nd October 2021

Hello Everyone,

Well we have come to the end of our first half term and I think everyone is ready for a good rest. We have really enjoyed getting to know you and the children – they have settled into Nursery so well. We have had fun getting our hands dirty this week, planting daffodil and tulip bulbs ready for the Spring. Our focus book has been ‘Pumpkin Soup’ and as well as looking at different pumpkins, we have done a fine motor skills activity hammering matchsticks into a pumpkin which the children loved and we decorated pumpkin biscuits which we ate very messily at snack time – apologies for any black tongues the children may have! We didn’t actually get to make any pumpkin soup, but we will do this when we come back after half term.

On our first day back after the half term break the school is having a ‘Spooky Day’ so the children can come to Nursery dressed up or they can come in non-school uniform. To fit in with this theme, our focus book has just got to be ‘Room on the Broom’. The letter sound we will be learning is ‘S’ and we will also be thinking about Diwali and Bonfire Night. Have a good half term break and keep warm!

Wellie Walking

By Sarah Scofield8th October 2021

Hello Everyone,

We had a great time on our wellie/Creation walk on Thursday, looking for all the wonderful things that God created. Today we made pictures and patterns with the natural objects we found. It was just lovely to let the children go and explore our school area – we found lots of things including two fox holes and a badger set although the foxes and badgers were in hiding. If you go on any walks to the park or woods this weekend, it would be great if you could bring any conkers, acorns, Autumn leaves or objects of interest for us to use in Nursery. Also for next week could you send in a baby photo of your child which we will photo copy to use to talk about how they have grown and changed. This week we have also been exploring circles. Next week we will be learning about triangles.Happy birthday to Rose and Darcy who have both celebrated their birthday this week. Have a great weekend everyone.
