Well done to Jerusalem who were this week’s winners!
This week in Nursery we have been making lots of repeating patterns using different materials such as pasta shapes, coloured lolly sticks and beads. The trickiest bit was spotting mistakes in repeating patterns – we really had to concentrate and use our eyes carefully! The children have really enjoyed learning and performing our rhyme of the week ‘Down at the Station’ which was a little trickier than usual – we are looking forward to next Friday’s Nursery Rhyme X Factor with anticipation.
We used familiar fairy tales and gave the characters different dilemmas that the children had to help them with so they could make the right choice and stay safe. Today we read Goldilocks and the Three Bears and talked about not talking to strangers ( and definitely not walk into their house and eat their porridge!) and who we would ask for help if we got lost in the supermarket.
Happy Lunar New Year Everyone!
As you can see we have been learning about the Lunar (Chinese) New Year. The children have loved role playing in our Chinese restaurant, listening to Chinese music, listening to the Chinese New Year story, counting coins into numbered red envelopes, making red playdough cakes/cookies, using chop sticks to pick up noodles, making cards and dragons and having a taste of spring rolls at snack time. In R.E this week we have been learning that Sunday is a secial day for Christians and learning about what people do in Church when they come together as part of God’s family.
Each half term we have to do an act of charity, so we have chosen GrowKids Coventry to donate any toys or clothes which are in good condition to – any donations will be most welcome. Finally, because the way schools teach phonics is changing in line with Government guidelines, in Nursery we will no longer be focussing on learning a knew phoneme each week but we will continue to carry on with listening to sounds at the beginnings of words, rhyming words, learning Nursery rhymes and lots of listening activities. Have a good weekend everyone!

“All Souls’ Church”
Hello Everyone,
It’s been a very cold week in Nursery and we have continued with our artic theme. The children have made some wonderful snowmen with playdough, they have made snowflake patterns with the glass beads, winter collages and have been playing with the arctic animals on our small world table and in the water tray. Next week we will be focussing on transparent/shiny/glittery materials and incorporating these materials into our water and sand play and play with torches. Our phoneme of the week will be ‘d’ and we will continue to read and share stories about penguins, polar bears and winter etc. In R.E this half term our theme is ‘God’s Family’ so next Wednesday we are walking over to All Souls’ church to have a look at what we can see inside and to talk about what people do when they gather together in church. Keep warm this weekend!

Watch out for those ice bergs!
Hello Everyone and a belated Happy New Year to you all! It is wonderful to see the children back after the Christmas break, eager to share their news and happy to be back with their friends. This week we have been doing lots of mark making, painting, printing and cutting and sticking. The children are also being encouraged to have a go at finding their name cards and have a go at writing their names – we will be doing lots of mark making, fine motor skills and simple handwriting activities this term to support this. To fit in with the spell of cold weather we have been playing with the small world arctic animals and learning about which animals live in the South and North pole and talking about why some animals are camouflaged. Our phoneme this week has been ‘n’ and next week we will be focussing on ‘m’. Next week we will continue to do activities related to Winter weather. In the next couple of days you should be recieving our Nursery newsletter for the Spring term, outlining the learning we will be covering this term. Have a good weekend and keep warm!
