Year 6 and Reception have been enjoying their prayerful time together on a Friday afternoon, during which groups of children from Year 6 take it in turns to plan, lead and deliver a shared prayer service. Each theme has been well thought through, with appropriate scripture being read and activities planned to support the children in Reception in understanding the theme.
This week we have been looking closely at the coins we use. The children have sorted them by colour and shape. They have coloured the coins, counted the coins and used them in their role play. One Friday they used the coins to ‘buy’ an end of day treat! We have also been matching the letters of the alphabet by name and phoneme. The children are good at naming phonemes but are not so confident when the naming the letters of the alphabet, this is an area we are still working on and would love your support with this at home. In our handwriting sessions we have been practising writing c, o and g and also writing numbers. Below are some photographs of the week.
This week we have been finding out all about making healthy choices. We made healthy dinner plates and choose a healthy selection of food groups to make a lunchbox. Our literacy this week was labeling our choice of foods and we are very pleased with how well the children are getting at sounding out words to write. On Friday we had tried some of the healthy food choices we had talked about during the week. Mathematics this week was subtraction. The children have been practically subtracting and some of them have also completed subtraction worksheets. We have been practising our handwriting skills, baptising a baby in RE, sharing a prayer service with Year 6, learning new words and listening to stories without pictures or props. We found some ice outside and decided to complete an experiment to see how long it took to melt. Sophie guessed that it would take about half an hour in the heat of the classroom. As you can see in the photograph below she was right!
This week we also had a visit from the school nurse who told us how we needed to wash our hands to keep us germ free.
We have explored texture, using words to describe how objects free and using our hands to feel objects we cannot see. We also made texture pictures.
We have been recognising and ordering numbers to 20 and also learning about rhyme and rhyming strings. It was a busy week for all!
We had a very busy first week back. We have been recognising numbers to 20, learning about addition, exploring musical instruments, sharing a prayer service with Year 6, learning the meaning of new words ‘Next to’ and writing our Christmas news. We have also had the opportunity to role play in our new ‘Sweet Shop’. Please would you donate any empty sweet or chocolate boxes to add to our shop.

The children have some more tricky words that they need to practise, will you please help them to do this. We would like to say thank you to all of you that take the time to read with your child, it really does make a difference to how they progress in their reading skills. Please can we ask that everyone spares a little time each day to help your child read their book. Thank you.
Year 6 and Reception shared a lovely prayer service today led beautifully by Harry, Jude & Kian. The theme was ‘New Beginnings’ – we listened to scripture from the Bible and helped each other to make some promising New Year resolutions.
To end our party day we had a visit from a special person, Father Christmas! We all had a present and sang some Christmas songs for him before he had to go. We hope you all had a lovely, holy, peaceful Christmas with your families.
We would like to wish everyone a peaceful and happy Christmas and say a big ‘Thank You’ for all our lovely cards and presents. You were very generous. We have had a lovely day watching the Gruffalo and having our face painted. We are having a visit from Father Christmas this afternoon and ending with a party. Below are some pictures of our faces.
School starts again on Tuesday the 8th of January.
The children where amazing on Tuesday and Wednesday and give a great performance of the Nativity. Thank you for coming along to watch, it makes all their hard work worth it. Later in the week we had a special delivery from Santa and the children were really excited to receive a reply to their letters. We sang a goodbye song to Mrs Ellis and to finish the week, we had Christmas Jumper day. Below are some pictures of the week.

We had a great day at the Snow Dome today, playing in the snow, watching Santa and visiting the animals. The children were all very well behaved and really enjoyed themselves. Thank you to all our helpers, we really could not provide the experiences without your support. I have added some photographs of the day below.
