Odd Socks Day!

Antibullying Week 2023!

As part of ‘Odd Socks Day 2023’ the Year 2 children attended a whole school assembly.


Back in class they enjoyed listening to the important messages of anti bullying, through listening to ‘Andy and the Odd Socks’ band singing ‘Make some Noise!’ joining in with the song/rap reinforcing the message.

They then discussed ‘kindness’ and what this looks like and feels like for them. Finally they designed their own odd socks and added a kindness related word!

Exploring Typography

This half term, in art, Year 5 are exploring typography.

We first learnt about typography and looked at different artists, such as Louise Fili.

Then we began experimenting creating different words out of different mediums – such as irregular shapes and materials found in forest school.

Odd Socks Day

Anti-Bullying Week 2023 is coordinated in England, Wales and Northern Ireland by the Anti-Bullying Alliance. This year it has the theme ‘Make A Noise About Bullying’ and will take place from Monday 13th to Friday 17th November. The week kicked off with Odd Socks Day, where adults and children wear odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique.

What is in our food?

Year 3 were shocked to find how much sugar and fat is in the food we eat daily. We can fun comparing different foods. Then we created the prefect balanced diet day, which included a little bit of chocolate.

Year 2 enjoyed visiting Fr Paul’s Garden

The children really enjoyed exploring Fr Paul’s garden in search of small creatures and mini beasts. This was our hook lesson getting excited about creating some interesting creatures to write our Non-Chronological Reports. We can’t wait to invite Fr Paul into school to read our final reports!

The sun shone brightly for us which was brilliant after such a soggy weekend! We even popped into the prayer garden to say a prayer of thanks.

Potato Picking

As part of our Geography unit: ‘Journeys and Trade’; Year 6 visited the local allotments to learn about how our food is grown and the journey it takes to get to our plates. We were shown around the allotments by local allotment owners Mr Kirrane and Mr Johnson and we learnt about sowing, composting, fertilising, growing and storing vegetables. We also learnt about the journey that our fruit and vegetables take thereafter, when they are sold to Coventry Market and arrive on our plate.







We saw lots of home-grown beetroot, parsnips, onions and potatoes and we also picked fresh apples and blackberries from the trees. Mr Kirrane gave us all our own potato to take home and we have created potato characters which we will be using as inspiration for writing our diary entries in next week’s lesson.





Thank you for showing us around your allotments Mr Kirrane and Mr Johnson and for teaching us so much about locally grown produce! We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon with you!

Doctors for the afternoon!

On Wednesday we were visited by Dr Robyn, Dr Rosie, Dr Emma, Dr Stephen and Dr Luke from the University of Warwick and UHCW. We had the most wonderful afternoon, the children all listened so carefully, joined in and learnt lots of new things about their bodies and looking after themselves.

The children learnt all about healthy eating and making good food choices, wrote pawscriptions for their poorly bears, dressed up in scrubs, gave their teddies a check up, bandaged up their injuries, checked each others heart beats with real stethoscopes and raced around an obstacle course to see how it changed their heart rate.
