We are already so proud of their many achievements and know they will try their absolute best to show off all their knowledge and skills this week. Remmber also Year 6 that each and every one of you have been blessed with qualities, skills and talents that SATs can’t test!

Maundy Thursday

Today marks the beginning of the most important few days in the Church’s calendar. Starting on Palm Sunday, we have been journeying through Holy Week whilst on our Easter break. We hope you have managed to take some time to enjoy time together, relax, rest as well as reflect on this special time of year.

During his Last Supper on the night before he died, Jesus gave us the gift of himself when he took bread and wine and said: This is my Body. This is my Blood. This is me. The Bread of Life. Food for the Journey.

As Catholics, we believe that part of Jesus is within each of us. We are his hands and his feet. With everything currently going on in our world today, remember that how we treat those closest to us is a reflection of how we expect to be treated. Take time today to think of those who give themselves to others so that they can live. To parents, to emergency workers, to aid workers, to those protecting the most vulnerable, thank you for all you do.

If you wish to attend mass today, the mass at All Souls Church begins at 7.30pm with solemn watching until midnight.

Big Lent Walk

Reception and Year 6 enjoyed a local walk as part of our Big Lent Walk on Thursday with their prayer partners. It was a lovely way to end our day.

Attendance Awards

This term, we have had a competition within our classes. Every time this term we have been in 100% our name went into a box. Today, the Well-being Captains picked a name out of each box (year) and they won a voucher. Well done to everyone, who won and who got their name into the box.

 

Year 6 Bake Off!

On Tuesday we held our first ever Bake-Off competition! The participation from the children and their adults-at-home was incredible and we received a range of culinary delights which were a feast for the eyes and for our bellies!

The Bake-Off was part of our Design & Technology curriculum where children were asked to research a recipe for a baked or unbaked dessert of their choice. The children researched their chosen recipe independently and created a recipe card for their item which they then took home and used to purchase the ingredients required to bake their delicious treat.

 

The effort, creativity and care taken to create and bake their item was outstanding and we received an array of sweet treats spanning mint-chocolate fudge, freshly baked scones, Greek, Cypriot, Czech, Polish and Spanish national desserts, carrot cake, sponge-cakes, chocolate-dipped strawberries, cookies, home-made milkshake, fridge-baked cheesecake, Eton-Mess and exploding confetti cake just to mention a few!

The children brought their items to school and placed them on display in the Year 6 classroom and our panel of Judges were invited to taste-test the items throughout the course of the day. The items were anonymised and judges were asked to choose their top 5 items based on taste, effort and presentation.

After a long (and delicious!) day of tasting the the points were added up and the winners were announced. The judges noted that it was incredibly difficult to choose a favourite item as there so many outstanding entries!

Many parents communicated that it was nice to spend family time with their child baking and decorating so its wonderful to hear that the activity was enjoyed by both adults and the children.

Well done to everyone who took part and a huge thank you to parents and carers for enabling the children to participate in the event; we really couldn’t have done it without you and we hugely appreciate your support in making the day a success!

We were overwhelmed with the many fantastic entries we had for our competition! It was a very difficult job to judge them! They were all so brilliant! Who knew cardboard tubes could be so creative! Well done to our winners who won a book voucher and our runners up who won a sweet treat!

World Book Day!

We had such a brilliant day celebrating world book day in school. The children (and staff!) had made a huge effort to dress up and all looked fantastic! The reading cafe was a success and was enjoyed by the children and the adults. Thank you to all who came. The children really enjoyed having you come into school for a short while.

Primary Aspirations Week

On Wednesday, Year 6 visited Moseley Primary School to take part in the Coventry Primary Aspirations careers event.

The children were split into small groups and met with the West Midlands Fire Service, Coventry Music Hub, The National Grid and Crisis Homeless Charity. Everyone listened attentively to each of the facilitators as they learned about careers within a variety of organisations ranging from administrative roles, HR and fundraising to cyber security, music sampling and fire-fighting!

We learnt all about how to work towards a career in each industry and also apprenticeship routes into various roles within each of the company’s organisational structures.  The children asked pertinent questions and were excited to partake in some fun interactive  activities which included National Grid bingo and creating and recording their own digital sample of a music track.

A huge thank you to the facilitators and to Moseley Primary School for hosting. It was a fun and informative morning with valuable insights into future career prospects for all of the children.
