Year 6 felt privileged and welcome to be invited to St Mary Magdalene’s Church (‘The Church with the blue roof’) to take part in the Stations of the Cross service on Wednesday. The children would like to thank Father Edward for leading them in such beautiful prayer and reflection.
On Wednesday Year 6 finished their MicroBit computing lessons by creating their very own pedometer. We talked about some of the code that was needed for this to work and were then challenged to create this code on their own. We had lots of success however they ended up being very temperamental when we tested them out whilst completing a couple of laps of the playground for their Walk for Lent challenge.
Just a reminder about the competition to design a cardboard tube book character. Bring in your creations from Wednesday next week ready for judging on Friday!

PRAY…FAST…GIVE
This week we invited our adults into the classroom to participate in our Lenten workshop. We spent some time creating a ‘Prayer Through Colour’ where we reflected on words that come to mind when we think of Our Lord. We had many different ideas such as Saviour, Our Father, God, Most High, The Almighty and several more. We decorated our word of choice with illustrations and words to offer up our prayers and intentions for people and causes close to our hearts. The children were each invited to place their colour-prayers close to our prayer table as we listened to our readers recite the Liturgical readings of the day.
We then shared a video of the children talking about what Lent means to them in which they told us what they might consider giving up for Lent. They also had some great ideas as to what sacrifices their adults could also make during this time – with some wonderful (and at times amusing) ideas!
The final part of our workshop was to spend some time reflecting on the season of Lent as we crafted a stained glass crucifix or a colour-scratch crucifix, which we plan to take to church next week to be blessed by Father Paul. The children crafted some beautiful crucifixes and we look forward to offering them up to be blessed during the mass.
Thank you to all of the adults who joined us for the afternoon. We understand that it isn’t always easy to attend these events and appreciate that you have given up your time to spend the afternoon with the children. These events are always incredibly special to the school and to the children and we are thankful to be able to share them with you.
Today, Year 6 wore green for CAFOD to raise awareness for their great cause and started our whole class contributions to CAFOD’s Big Lent Walk!
Over the last 2 days, 12 children from Y6 participated in an indoor rowing competition against over 20 other schools from Coventry. They first had individual races where they rowed as far as they could in 1 minute 30 seconds. The children were amazing at this with many of them achieving personal bests. Afterwards, they competed as a team in the 4-minute relay – they supported and cheered each other on and managed to achieve personal bests. Overall, the Boys team finished in 10th place and the girls team in 6th place. We are still waiting for the results of the mixed team that competed earlier today. Well done everyone you were all incredible.

Today Year 6 and Reception met for a Valentine’s themed craft. Firstly, Reception shared the story of Saint Valentine and why he became a saint. We then paired up to complete our heart threading activity. We worked well as a team and enjoyed a little play time afterwards!
This week was National Storytelling Week, an annual event organised by the National Literacy Trust.
This fantastic annual event is a joyful celebration of the power of sharing stories. Stories teach us about the world, they allow us to step into someone else’s shoes and feel empathy, they help us to relax and escape and they can help develop essential literacy skills.
To celebrate and acknowledge the week the children of All Souls’ embraced storytelling by visiting other year groups to share stories and read to each other.

Everyone had such a lovely week telling stories and spending time with others from across school, we hope it has encouraged the children to share stories with those at home!
