The new Year 6 are here and our first day back was a blast! We kicked off Wednesday by reuniting with our friends and All Souls family in an assembly – It suddenly felt like we had never been gone! Back in our class with Mrs Hartwell and Mrs Elkins, we discussed, agreed and signed a contract of class rules and responsibilities. Next came the exciting part where we were able to share our amazing mathematical board games, that we had made over the summer holidays, with our friends. Mrs Hartwell and Mrs Elkins looked extremely impressed with the effort we had all gone to. The winners of the board game challenge were Roisin and Henryk! Well done!
In other competition news, Kelsey and Callum M were announced as the winners of the postcard competition. Kelsey sent hers from Norfolk and included detailed diagrams to provide us with more information. Callum included lots of detail describing his adventures in the Isle of Wight. Well done!
Kupa, Cecelia, Joseph & Grace H were announced as winners of the homework award. Kupa and Cecelia designed impressive photos which illustrated their likes, dislikes, interests and hobbies without the use of words, whilst Joseph and Grace’s detailed book reviews provided excellent recommendations of books to read.
All competition winners received 5 raffle tickets to enter into our first weekly draw.
On Thursday, Mr Cooke asked us to complete a handwriting test to determine who was ready for a pen license. Friday’s Superstar assembly announced Michael, Ciara, Ben J, Cecelia, Maticia, Roisin, Kelsey and Orla O’Shea as the lucky receivers of their pen licence along with a special handwriting pen which they are really excited to use! The rest of our class are going to try really hard to earn one next time!
We all really enjoyed a whole class discussion Thursday afternoon, in which we were posed with peculiar questions to discuss as a group, such as “Is there more future in the world or more past?” We listened and contributed really well as a class and found the whole experience fascinating – We hope this circle time continues!
Today, our day began by writing prayers to ask God to guide us through this important year ahead. As the sun was shining, we decided to go down to the beautiful prayer garden to listen to everyone say their individual prayer. This shared prayer time was a very special and reverent moment for all of us.
Superstars of the week in our Friday morning assembly were announced as Henryk for his thoughtful prayer and Orla O for being responsible and eager. Well done superstars!
Finn and Michael also received a special mention as they were commended for their effort in a competition we entered in Year 5, in which we had to design a dinner for astronauts in space! We all received a certificate for our entries, but Michael and Finn also received a goody bag for their tremendous ideas! Well done!
So… At the end of our three-day-thrilling-week, which drew to an end with Roisin winning the class raffle, we all feel amazing and excited to see what next week will bring.
Keep checking back for our class song, which is currently at the editing stage, in addition to photos of our first wonderful week in Year 6!
Have a lovely weekend,
Year 6 🙂
