Welcome back!
‘Missed you Monday’ began by a warm welcome from Mrs Hartwell. We were all so excited to see other, catch up and chat about what we had been up to over our first half term of Year 6! Some of us (Finn and Mrs Hartwell) spent their break being poorly, while the rest of us celebrated birthdays and enjoyed spending time with our family and friends. Our brains continued to grow as we learned about the order of calculations, using BODMAS to help us.
‘Terrific Tuesday’ was made even more terrific by a sensational taste tempting to tickle our taste buds and inspire our minds. After examining the effect of different language devices used in adverts, it was our turn to come up with some of our own. First we got to taste the product. In silence, we had to spend time using our 5 senses to explore the unknown chocolate. Here are a few of our creations:
‘The popping candy pops along and the beautiful taste lingers so long.’ (Ben J)
‘Are you looking for a taste of sensation?’ (Roisin)
‘As delicate as a dancing ballerina.’ (Ciara)
‘Imagine a chocolate bar with sweets combined. Imagine it popping and crackling inside. Imagine a chocolate bar, thick and chunky. You’re imagining this.’ (Annie)
‘A little taste of heaven.’ (Aoife)
‘Soft, smooth and silky.’ (Kelsey)
‘A bursting bar of happiness.’ (Catherine)
Tuesday ended with singing a huge happy birthday to Catherine!
On ‘Wonderful Wednesday’, we learned all about the importance of Moses and how he helped lead the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt to the Promised Land. We created a storyboard detailing the significant stages of the life of Moses. In Science, we learned about how and why we may look similar to our family members by discussing the similarities and differences. It was interesting to discuss identical twins, as well as cross breeds of puppies!
Wednesday was also the first day of the RSC coming to school and working with the choir. We all really enjoyed practicing our songs for Strictly Come Dancing.
‘Thrilling Thursday’ led to more birthday celebrations as Ben Jones turned 11 too! Mr Evans even sang Happy Birthday during Ukulele. We completed the raffle at the end of the day as Mrs Hartwell would not be in the next day! Congratulations to Jude, who let out a mighty cheer when his raffle ticket was read out!
Finally, Friday came. We spent some time working on our final piece in Art. We had brought in objects similar to those in Paul Cezanne’s art and recreated our own masterpieces. After taking a photo, we spent time mixing up possible colours to create a palette similar to Cezanne’s. When we were happy with this, we worked on our skills of using pastels, learning how to blend and shade.
