Year 6 have been busy learning all about classification and the important role of taxonomists.
We had a go at grouping animals based on their similar characteristics before classifying them to determine which animals should be housed near each other in a zoo.
We then went outside to collect a variety of leaves. We learnt about the important role of leaves and how they differ from each other before using Venn diagrams to categorise them.
Year 6 have enjoyed making the most out of the sunshine this week.
We love exploring our forest school area and appreciate how lucky we are to have such an exciting and adventurous place to explore. Here are a few photos of us making the most out of our time in there:
We have also taken maths outside this week, playing games to secure our understanding of place value and comparing numbers:
We enjoyed reading our class book, ‘The Pig Heart Boy’ in the sunshine:
And of course enjoyed a game or two too:
We look forward to seeing how we can make the most of our outdoor environment next week too!
Miss Quinn has been teaching Year 6 all about Nōtan art. Nōtan is a Japanese design concept involving the play and placement of light and dark elements as they are placed next to the other in the composition of art and imagery. Look how brilliant they’ve turned out!
This morning, Year 6 took part in CAFOD’s ‘The World We Want’ National Assembly. This assembly helped us to reflect on the changes we’ve all experienced and the opportunity we now have to transform our world, together.
We thought about the world that we want..
… and tomorrow we will be making pledges to show what we will be doing to make a difference.
]A huge welcome back to all of our Year 6 children who have had a fabulous few days settling back into school. It was lovely to see their beaming smiles enter our classroom and we were surprised at how much they’d grown! They have adapted to the changes easily and are beginning to establish themselves as the oldest members of All Souls’ and set those good examples.
We have made lots of effort to get to know one another this week and have already become a strong team. I have really enjoyed watching their confidence grow as they have begun to show off what they are capable of! There is now a beautiful array of work which shows just how talented they are and I am keen to see what more they have to offer next week! Here are just a couple of the activities we have done this week:
Took part in two virtual assemblies:
Made birthday cards for eachother:
Created pixellated self-portraits and autobiographical poems:
Received some well-deserved pen licences:
We ended the week by taking part in a circuit class – I think it’s fair to say that some children enjoyed it more than others! Hopefully there’s not too many aching legs and arms tomorrow!
Finally, a huge ‘Happy Birthday’ to Daniel G and Ha-Eun for tomorrow. We hope you have lots of fun celebrating! Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Mrs H 🙂
It was great to see Year 6 gather together for one last time before they part ways and head off on their next adventure to their secondary schools. The ‘garden party’ was a great success with lots of food, fun and laughter! A huge thank you to Mrs Rae for organising and making it happen!
Well done to all of the children who won awards for their contribution to All Souls’ over the years:
I so wish this year had ended differently, with all the usual things Year 6 has to offer but what it did do was show me in a completely different way what amazing individuals you all are. I honestly could not be any more proud you all and I am so excited to see where your futures take you.
Thank you all so much for the cards, kind words and generous gifts; they were all greatly appreciated and cheered me up immensely! Continue being the best versions of yourselves, Year 6 and please do not become strangers.
Mrs H 🙂
We started off this week in the best possible way: a virtual shared celebration of the Good Shepherd Mass at St. Chad’s Cathedral with Archbishop Bernard and Dan and Emily from One Life Music.
Here is William and Hannah watching the mass and a thoughtful post-mass reflection from Hannah that completely sums up what a beautiful mass it was to be a part of:
Here is what Molly has been getting up to! Check out her concoction of liquids from her Science experiement:
Helena has also been busy this week. I love her reflection on what All Souls’ Church means to her:
Niamh has been as busy as ever:
If you fancy having a go at following her origami instuctions to make a heart, read them here!
Here is some of Frank’s work:
Year 6 have also been busy responding to Fr. Paul’s request about explaining what All Souls’ Church means to them. We have received some really lovely responses:
