What living things are there in our local environment?

As part of their Science unit, ‘Living things and their habitats’, Year 4 made the most out of the sunshine this afternoon as they went outdoors to explore the life surrounding us.

We discussed the different plants and animals we would find in various areas of our school grounds and why they were likely places to be found before sketching them and sharing our findings with eachother. We worked scientifically by making observations, recording findings and identifying similarities and differences. The children had lots of fun and were really brave and sensible dealing with all the creepy crawlies!

Year 4 – Pizza Express

As part of their DT unit this term, Year 4 will be visiting Pizza Express on the morning of Thursday 10th May 2018 for a workshop behind the scenes.

The workshop is due to start at 9.30am and we will be walking from school to Pizza Express at the Belgrade Plaza in the city centre. Therefore, I am asking that all children arrive promptly at school for 8.30am so that we can arrive with plenty of time. They should come to school in full uniform and also bring with them a waterproof coat, just in case! We will be back for lunch so usual arrangements will stay the same.

As this is the Feast of the Ascension, Year 4 will unfortunately be missing the whole school mass; however, we are already busy planning our own prayer service, which we hope to hold in our prayer garden in the afternoon to join in with this holy day of obligation.

 

Year 4 Tag Rugby

Firstly, apologies for the mounds of washing you may have had to endure last night! However, rest assured that the children had lots of fun getting dirty as they showed great participation and teamwork in their Tag Rugby game on the slightly boggy field!

Good luck Year 4!

Year 4 have entered Aldi and Team GB’s Design a Reusable Bag Competition as part of our quest to reduce the dangers to living things in our environment.

The bag had to have a design that promoted eating fresh fruit and vegetables. The prize is a visit from a Team GB athlete, Aldi vouchers for the school and getting the design printed on to a Bag For Life which will be available in Aldi stores.

What a way to start our day!

Well done to all of the members of Dance Club who helped to kick start our Wednesday morning with some fabulous performances. They performed a variety of dance routines with oodles of confidence and huge smiles, really entertaining us all!

Many thanks to Mrs Cooke for all of her hard work and thank you to all friends and family who were able to come along and show the children some support!

 

Religious Art – Textiles

Year 4 were hooked into their next RE unit ‘Moses and The Old Testament’ by exploring the life of Moses before being tasked with representing part of his life through a variety of textiles. I was amazed with how creative the children were with mixing their multimedia and really bringing his story to life. See if you can identify the following scenes:

To celebrate St George’s Day tomorrow, children are invited to come into school wearing red and/or white.

As Year 6 are going on a class trip to the Herbert Art Gallery, they must come into school in full uniform.

Year 4’s MFL Day at Bishop Ullathorne

Year 4 had the exciting opportunity of visiting Bishop Ullathorne with some other primary schools for their MFL day. The children took part in a wide variety of activities, practising their Spanish and learning about different Spanish speaking countries. Ask them what they found out! They had such good fun and even came back into school doing the conga singing in Spanish!
