Today is World Science Day.
As a special little treat, Mr Rolison brought in his extended family of minibeasts for us to look at, learn about, ask questions and even hold if were brave enough!
All of Year 4 had great fun and loved learning all about the minibeasts so thank you Mr Rolison! 🙂
Year 4 had so much fun (possibly too much!) learning some new skills in their fencing session. They were taught how to whole a fencing sword, how to defend themselves, the rules of the sport and of course how to try and win! They all listened well, tried their very best to practise what they had learned and were also very brave!

Today, we learnt more about Remembrance Day and tried to understand deeper who the Royal British Legion are, why we wear poppies and how we can help.
We joined the rest of the school in 2 minutes of silence, wrote special prayers and created some blackout poetry.
This afternoon Year 4 and Year 1 were lucky enough to receive a visit from 5 scientists from Warwick ChemSoc Outreach.
Year 4 were learning about sound and discovered the difference between volume and pitch. They also made their own telephones choosing different sized cups and strings to explore which ones worked the best. It was really interesting to see how quiet we could whisper secret messages to our partners.
We had so much fun – it was a great way to start our new unit!
Year 1 were then wowed into their next unit of Materials and their Properties. They loved watched the dry ice!
Year 4 were so ‘egg-cited’ today to reveal what has happened to our eggs after being immersed in a variety of different drinks for the past week (other than releasing some rather pungent smells!).
Ask them what they discovered about the effect of drinks on our teeth!

This week Year 4 have celebrated two feast days: All Saints and All Souls. On both days, we went to Church, and all children were reverent, respectful and prayerful. We have offered our prayers to the Saints and remembered those who are now with God.
Year 4 have been busy visiting different editing stations to improve their draft version of their own sequel to our picture book Flotsam. I cannot wait to read the final versions!
Year 4 have been learning how to use the formal written method to help them calculate addition and subtraction sums with increasingly large numbers. Today, they had to go on a treasure hunt in small groups to find the answers to their sums and the corresponding letters. When they had all of the numbers and letters, they had to reorder the numbers into ascending order to spell out the winning phrase: Mrs Hartwell is the best!
The children really enjoyed putting their skills to good practice and working together competitively and win!
As in an introduction to our new RE unit on prayer, Year 4 made their own prayer hands to help them remember who to pray for and the types of prayer they can offer. Ask them why our thumb reminds us to pray for our closest friends and family.
