To conclude their science topic on animals including humans, which has involved looking deep into our mouths at our teeth, Year 4 have been discussing which drinks are good/bad for our teeth. Ask them how they are going to investigate this.

Today, Year 4 learnt about the festival of Diwali and joined in the celebrations by making their own lanterns.

WOW! Did you all see the sun today? Year 4 were totally fascinated by it!
We all went outside to look at it closer and shared our opinions about why we thought the sun was so spectacularly red. After ruling out ‘the end of the world’, ‘the sun is falling out of the sky’, ‘the sun is burning out’, ‘it’s not the sun – its a meteorite!’, we finally decided that researching it would be the best option!
So, we came inside to Google what on our Earth was happening and found out that it was caused by winds pulling up Saharan dust! Because the dust is so high, light from the sun is scattered in the longer wavelengths, which is more the red part of the spectrum, so it appears red to our eye.
Year 4 are learning about the weather in Geography and the changes that take place within and across the four seasons. After creating a seasonal poem in groups, they then had the chance to go and create an autumnal picture out of our natural surroundings. The wind was strong today though so they had to be quick with their creations and choose the most sheltered area to display them. See if you can work out what they are:
Today, Year 4 brightened up for harvest to help CAFOD make our world a better place.
We have been researching CAFOD as one of our chosen charities in our RE lessons focusing on how we are all made in the image and likeness of God and therefore should all be equal as one. We learnt more about CAFOD’s campaign to help fight poverty. We discussed ways in which we can help the catholic charity such as supporting them in our prayers, giving what we can through fundraising events or spare change, continuing their campaign by raising awareness of their great work and possibly becoming volunteers when we are older.
Together, we prayed for the children and their families in El Salvador that they may have the chance, with our help, to grow their way out of poverty.
Today, Year 4 took their draft books outside to draft their journey through the digestive system. I was so pleased with how well they worked outside and surprised how long they lasted with the very cold winds!

Tomorrow, we are brightening up this harvest by wearing brightly coloured clothes and bringing in £1 to help build a brighter and better world.
Well done to all children in Year 4 who have been running their campaigns to be elected this year as Year 4’s representatives. All children presented themselves well, with accompanying posters to support them and had some fabulous ideas!
The class votes have been counted, however, and the new class representatives that have been elected by a majority vote are two very worthy winners:
Rebecca Chatland and Liam Lewis Jones.
We held a class prayer service today with St. Francis as our focus to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. We chose to gather in the prayer garden close to his statue.
We listened to the life St. Francis experienced and learnt how his life changed when he devoted himself to God. We learnt why he became the patron saint of animals, merchants and ecology.
We responded with our own prayer of thanks to St. Francis and each contributed how we could be more like him in our daily lives. Our message to go forth with today was to consider how we could be kinder to animals so we decided to help feed the birds God created by placing bird feeders in and around the prayer garden area.
