Year 4 are learning about the human digestive system. Now that they know the different parts and their roles in this important process, today we explored more about the journey the food goes on from entering our mouths to entering the… Well, you know the rest!
It was lots of fun… And a little bit yucky too!
This week we started our very own Year 4 weather watch using our exciting new weather station outside Year 4 classroom.

It started off as a bit of a dull report earlier in the week as the weather was a bit boring (no wind nor rain!) but we were all ecstatic this morning because it rained last night! Liam and Assumpta were the first up to independently record the weather and reported to the rest of the class that it was fine but wet, sunny with some clouds, with a moderate southwesterly wind and 6mm of rainfall!

Stay tuned as we bring you the most accurate weather information you’ll find on the internet … although maybe a little sporadic and slightly later than you’d probably need to know!
Today, Year 4 explored what we mean by ‘respect’ in our class collective worship. We listened to scripture that reminded us how we are all made with similarities because we were all created in the image and likeness of God but we also have our differences because of our God given talents.

We used the quiet surroundings of our prayer garden to share how we think we were each created in the image of God before heading back into the classroom to delve deeper into the differences amongst us.
The children offered that we needed to RESPECT eachother’s differences like God intended us too and celebrate the fact that we are unique.
We really spent time thinking about what respect looks like and what it sounds like and worked together to come up with some ideas.

Thank you Year 4, for your thoughtful contributions to our extended prayer service today.

Year 4 are exploring paint in their art topic this term. We started off by recapping the primary colours and secondary colours before having a go at creating our own tertiary colours! We all had a messy but fun afternoon of learning. Mrs Hartwell was even impressed with how quickly and sensibly the children got the classroom back to its pre-paint splattered state!
We are already excited for next week’s art lesson! Watch out for our very own Picassos’ art pieces!
We love the ukulele!
It was lovely to see the wonder and awe on the children’s faces as they enter the classroom this morning to a beach themed display which had brought in with its waves, lots of flotsam!
They can’t wait to get writing to add their work to the wall too!
This week has been packed with lots of exciting lessons, hard work, interesting questions and a lot of giggles!
It began with our first ukulele lesson, in which Mr Evans introduced us to this interesting little instrument. Some of us already knew what they were as we’d heard our brothers and sisters practising. Once we’d learnt the different parts of the ukulele, we finally got to hold one and strum it. We !earnt a couple of silly sings and soon got the hang of the beat. We can’t wait for next Monday!
Please note children are more than welcome to bring their own ukulele into school with them but there is no obligation to buy one as we are currently supplying them.
In English, we continued our journey through Flotsam as we uncovered the wordless story for ourselves and really brought the pictures to life.
We then orally retold the sorry in groups.
In Maths, we have been comparing and ordering pretty big numbers and counting forwards and backwards in multiples of 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s – it’s been quite challenging but we’ve loved some of the competitive games!
In Science, we began our topic in the human body by exploring the different parts of the digestive system. We all had great fun shouting some of the body parts out and tried out very best to create out very own labelled image in groups outside in the playground.
We have also been learning about the Vikings in history such as who they were, where they came from and what they did. We had so many questions and loved creating our posters!
In RE, we have been learning about Creation and how God created us in the image of Him. We were so eloquent in our discussions which led to some leaves being added to our tree. This also become the focus of our prayer as we thought more deeply about how we individually were similar to God.
Please note it is our first family mass thus Sunday. It would be great to see as many of you there as possible!
Well done to Gosia and Harry who were this week’s Superstars – it was a toughy!
Have a lovely weekend! 🙂
Thursdays are always a million times better with a Mad Science assembly and, as always, the children LOVED it! The hall was buzzing with excitement as we were wowed by some fab Science experiments!
We are pleased to offer the opportunity for Mad Science after-school club to return to All Souls’ on a Wednesday as it has been such a success in the past! Please see the letter which children should have brought home today which details more information, timings and costs.
Year 4 have had a busy first full week back at school!
This week, we began looking at Flotsam – but only the front cover! This gave the children a little tease of what might be inside and got their creativity and predictive juices flowing. We can’t wait to uncover the story that lays inside next week!
In Maths, we have been looking at the place value of digits within numbers and used celebrities earnings to help us read and write really big numbers! We got practical with our numbers as we played lots of games to really embed these essential foundations and of course, have some fun too!
We ended the week with a brilliant first lesson of orienteering. The children showed off how well they remembered all Mr Youson had taught them last year, worked really well in their teams and had A LOT of fun!

Well done to the winning team!
Well done to Liam Lewis Jones and Shaldondie who were this week’s Superstars! Have a lovely weekend.
