Year 1 and 2 began the final week of term sharing the Stations of the Cross.
As part of their science study ‘Seasonal Changes’ the children were out and about looking for signs of spring.
As we continue our final week of term the children will be planting and creating a Resurrection Garden. Photo’s to follow.

This week the children have been busy creating art work using different media.
Eva created a jewel patchwork using old beads and buttons.
Niamh and Patrick created a jewel rainbow.
Each child contributed to creating ‘Our Gem Flower Fairy Land’. Made from pebbles, stones and sticks collected from the playground.
We have continued our prayer journey through Lent. This week the children reminded themselves of their Lenten promises. In particular we prayed for our friends in Year 6, who will be receiving the sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday.
In maths the children have been learning about fractions. So on Pancake Day there was only one thing to do!
The most delicious way to learn fractions! How many halves or quarters can you eat?
4 quarters 4 different toppings, chocolate sauce, syrup, sugar, caramel sauce or lemon? Needless to say the children were full of energy for their PE & music lessons.
The children have made a great start to the new half term.

A big welcome to Patrick who has joined Year 1 this half term. The children were very excited to meet him, and he has settled in very well.

In mathematics the children have been learning to measure using foot spans.
The children read the story of How Big is a Foot? by Rolf Myrell, a story of a tall king and a short carpenter. The children measured out their own ‘beds’ using different size foot spans.

Year 1 have been busy learning about money. A week of coin recognition, finding different ways to make different totals and adding coins together.
We began our Advent preparations by making an Advent Wreath to use each day during
Prayer Services.
. Our Friday practical maths lesson. Counting in 10’s. Making paper chains in 10 ‘s then adding together to make different multiples of 10. Plus we began getting ready for Christmas.
Well done to Niamh , who received the first bronze badge award for knowing her 10 times tables. Quite a few children were very close! keep practicing.
Last week the children began their new science topic, everyday materials. They put their investigations skills to work, identifying and sorting a range of objects. I hope the homework is going well!
Our mathematics focus is place value, the children have been working very hard on developing their understanding of place value. This week we will be completing lots of practical activities to help with their understanding.
A gentle reminder of a few things!
Please ensure your child has a named PE kit in school. Our PE topic this term is Rugby on a Friday, the weather is very cold and the field is extremely muddy. Please provide your child with trainers.
The colder weather brings, gloves, scarves and extra items of clothing. Please label your child’s belongings. You would be amazed how many Batman and Frozen items there are!
Friday is Children in Need day. Children can pay 50p and come to school dressed in yellow or something spotty. During the day the children will perform a talent show, the highlight of Miss Croarken’s year. Watch this space for photo’s and results.
