Busy! Busy! in Bethlehem and Year 1

By Mrs K McGOVERN17th December 2017

Just as our song from the play said, busy, busy in Bethlehem and very busy in Year 1.

Despite snow days, indoor play, performing the Christmas nativity and end of term assessments the children have remained focused and well behaved.

We ended the week with a beautiful shared prayer service with the children from Year 3.

Both classes were split in half and focused on peace.

The children wrote peace prayers on individual paper strips and then created a paper chain stretching from Year 1 to Year 3 classroom.

Thank you

Well done

By Mrs K McGOVERN16th December 2017

A huge well done to all the children in Year 1 and Year 2.

Their performance of A King is Born, was a wonderful reminder of the real meaning of Christmas.

All the Key Stage 1 staff are very proud of them.

A big thank you for supporting CAFOD Brighten Up this Harvest.

The children and staff looked great and it was a fun way to raise awareness of the needs of others. I will let you know next week how much money we raised.

Once again thank you for your continued support.

Colourful Year 1

By Mrs K McGOVERN1st October 2017

Well done to Molly and Eujhan  our two Superstars for achieving 100% in our weekly spelling quiz. Hopefully more names here next week.

We have continued our work on the colour wheel. The children had great fun mixing primary colours to create new colours. We linked this work to RE looking at the wonderful world of colour God created.

Please take a moment on Tuesday evening to look at our RE & Art World of Colour display in the hall.

On Monday children from Year joined us to share their wonderful descriptive writing. The story of Creation.

Finally a gentle reminder. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school and all items of foot ware and clothing are labelled.

Thank you for your continued support.

Year 1 Week 2, Creation, colour and digits.

By Mrs K McGOVERN16th September 2017

Well done to all the children in Year 1. They have worked very hard and are continuing to develop their listening skills and independence.

Congratulations to Natasza and Thomas our two very deserving Superstars this week.

We have been mastering new Year 1 skills.

Identifying digits in numbers. Setting out work in our maths books.

Writing out the date and lesson objectives in our work books.

Becoming familiar with the school marking symbols. Ask your child to explain, would they like their work to be graded A or E?

In RE the children have been learning about Creation and have painted some wonderful pictures ready for display in the school hall.

In art  we have begun our topic Colour and Paint, creating colour wheels with primary colours.

Year 1 are a happy bunch of 30 individual personalities and we are having fun getting to know each other.

Your child has been given a homework book and termly newsletter. Please encourage your child to complete their homework and return to school on Wednesday.

Finally a huge welcome back to Sienna, who has had an excellent first week back at All Souls.

Thank you for your continued support.

Please see me at the end of the school day id you have any worries, questions and concerns.

Busy Time In Year 1

By Mrs K McGOVERN10th September 2017

Well done to all the children in Year 1, they have made a great start to the new year.

On Tuesday they all arrived looking smart and smiling if not a little wet.

We have been very busy:

busy hands, practicing fine motor skills, hand writing and developing hand and arm strength through exercise.

busy feet, learning a new dance to help count in 10’s.

busy minds, ordering numbers, problem solving in maths using more and less, reading and recalling information from stories.

Finally well done to Eden and Jack our class superstars this week.

The week ended with a lovely prayer service, to celebrate Our Lady’s birthday.

Please ensure your child has a named PE kit in school next week.

Mrs Atwal and I are looking forward to getting to know the children, working together and the year ahead.

On Tuesday 12th September at 9.15am it is the first whole school mass of the year. It would be lovely and encouraging if you could join us.

Thank you

Year 1 Holy Week

By Mrs K McGOVERN8th April 2017

The Easter holidays are here and the children truly deserve a rest.

This has been a very busy term. The children have grown in maturity and independence.

They have worked very hard and are deserving of the progress they have made, well done.

During the final week of term there was a focus on the events of Holy Week.

Easter 5 Easter 6 Easter 8 Easter 9 Easter 10 Easter 12 Easter 14 Easter 15 Easter 16 Easter 17 Easter 18

On Monday the children acted out the triumphant journey into Jerusalem waving palms and shouting Hosanna.

On Tuesday the children created expressive artwork. Collages representing Anger in the Temple.

On Wednesday the children enjoyed a truly wonderful production of the Easter Story by Years 3 and 4.

During whole school mass on Thursday, the children watched as Fr Michael ‘washed the feet of the disciples’.

On Friday the children shared ‘The Last Supper’.  Well done to the children for engaging so respectfully in all events, for reading and sharing their thoughts and prayers.

On Friday the children participated in an Easter Egg Hunt, and managed to find all the hidden eggs.

Homework

There is no homework over the Easter holidays. Please continue to listen to your child read and encourage them to practice their 10 and 2 times tables.

Finally thank you for your continue support. Mrs Atwal and I wish you all a happy and holy Easter holiday, enjoy the break  and see you on the 24th.

Year 1 Mud Run

By Mrs K McGOVERN8th April 2017

The Easter break has begun and the children of Year 1 are certainly ready for a break.

Thank you for all your support over a busy term, World Book Day, St Patrick’s Coffee morning and the Mud Run.

The children had a brilliant time, literally throwing themselves into completing the course. It was lovely to watch the children helping each other and ‘just going for it’. The support and encouragement offered by their class peers from the side line added to the excitement.
