Please remember that year 5 need outdoor warm kit for their rugby sessions with the Wasps on Wednesdays. We will be on the field whatever the weather and so all children need to be wrapped up in their tracksuits. Gloves and hats are also encouraged!

1. Thanks once again to the Wasps Community and Engage Rugby for another fantastic session! Year 5 have had a busy first week back in school after half term and have got started on all our new topics for the upcoming half term!

In Literacy, we are now reading Danny the Champion of the World (by Roald Dahl).

In Maths, we have moved on to multiplication and division.

In Science, we are now investigating materials and their properties and how we can experiment with changes in materials.

In Geography, we are conducting a case study of Cairo.

In RE, we are finishing off our miracles and sacrament of the sick unit before moving on to Advent.

In PE, we are very lucky to have the Coventry Wasps coming in to teach us how to play tag rugby on Wednesdays and on Thursdays, we are now doing badminton and table tennis.

What a fabulous day we have had at the cathedral today learning about the Blitz and life in Coventry in WW2! The children were a real credit to the school and behaved wonderfully. The weather held out too which was a bonus!

In the morning, we toured the old and new parts of the cathedral and learnt about how the original cathedral got flattened during the night of 14th November 1940. We climbed the 180 steps to the top of the tower; the view was well worth the climb! We then experienced a 1940s classroom and house and learnt about how people lived during the war.

After lunch, we made ration books, thought about what we would pack in our suitcases if we were evacuated and then created some wartime artwork using chalk. A great day had by all!

Look at us all dressed up in colourful clothes to “Brighten up the Harvest!” Thank you for your kind donations and tins of food.

This was a colourful end to an exciting week! We’ve moved on to our next maths topic which will be focusing on addition and subtraction. We’ve started writing our own version of The Day the Crayons Quit, taking inspiration from various household items and we’ve also concluded our Creation topic in R.E and have created our own Canticle of Creation based on St. Francis of Assisi’s.

Today we sadly waved adios to Senorita Martin who is leaving us this term. We did so in true spanish style with a fun-filled fiesta in the classroom followed by an assembly where Year 5 performed a song in Spanish!

Thank you Senorita Martin for such a great year, for teaching us the Spanish language and opening our eyes to the Spanish culture. We have thoroughly enjoyed our lessons and will miss you very much! We wish you all the best for the future!

Today, Year 5 had a debate about whether the UK should leave or remain in the EU. We seem to have some budding politicians in the class and the children were very enthusisatic and vocal with their opinions!

We then held our own referendum and Year 5 used their ballot papers to vote on the matter. Year 5 voted to remain in the EU. I wonder if the rest of the UK will think the same..?.
