Wow, the children and staff have tried so hard this week we have now ran 1195 miles and are 20% of the way the Tokyo. If we were in an plane on our way there we would be flying over Ukraine and a village called Tsvitova – unbelievably when this was mentioned to the children Roza from Year 6 had a huge smile on her face and couldn’t wait to tell us that she has a friend who lives in this very village.

Keep up the good work everyone – we should be over a quarter of the way there this time next week.

Since coming back all children have been taking part in The Daily Mile. Children are being encouraged to run/walk for 1 mile per day to try to help with their overall fitness and wellbeing. We have linked this up with the Tokyo Olympics which will hopefully run later this year and have given ourselves the goal of trying to collectively run the distance from Coventry to Tokyo, just 5,916 miles. So far the children have run 295 miles (approx 5%) between them. Year 4 has so far run the furthest accounting for 85 of these miles. Well done everyone it’s a fantastic start on our road to Tokyo.

Today is World Book Day during which we celebrate the joy and value of books and the art of reading.

The children and staff at school have come dressed as their favourite book character or in their bedtime pyjamas. Don’t they look fabulous? We are looking forward to seeing what  characters the children at home have dressed up as when we have the class ‘catch-ups’ via Zoom.

As the theme this year is ‘Share a Story’, children in Years 1-6 can watch a pre-recorded video of one of our class teachers reading a book out loud to them. However, the story that your child will hear won’t be read by their class teacher but by another class teacher. Which teacher does your child think will be sharing a story with him/her today?

The children are really enjoying participating in our Masked Reader Competition and many children have successfully managed to work out which member of staff has been behind the disguise each day. Don’t forget to watch and comment on today’s Masked Reader video. Our competition ends tomorrow and winners will be announced on Monday of next week.

Today is Safer Internet Day – a lesson has been posted on Google Classroom that your child should be taking part in.

There are so many new apps and games that children are using now that is hard to keep up and know the risk associated with them all or how to make them safer to use. They provide you with the risks associated with these apps or games and some safety tips for you to follow to help keep your child safe whilst using them. Show your child how you question and evaluate online content….

If you come across a fake news story, or get sent a phishing email, discuss with your child how you spotted it and what you did. Why not ask them for a second opinion? Your child may have already heard about it or seen something similar, and if not, it’s a learning opportunity for both of you. Seeing a parent actively question and evaluate online content teaches young people the importance of doing the same.

Each day you scan this code you will gain points for our school and hopefully help us win the competition. Remember you must be with an adult to submit your entry.
