On Wednesday, eight children from Year 5 took part in a Values Dodgeball Tournament. In this event, winning wasn’t the main focus — instead, teams earned points for demonstrating respect, honesty, and teamwork throughout their matches.
Although we didn’t come away with a win, the children gave it their all and truly embodied the spirit of the competition. They showed fantastic sportsmanship and represented the school brilliantly — well done, everyone!
Also on Wednesday, nine children from Year 6 took part in an exciting HADO competition, splitting into three teams. HADO is an augmented reality version of dodgeball, combining technology with physical activity — and the children absolutely loved it!
They had a fantastic time learning how to use the AR equipment and bringing their dodgeball skills into a whole new setting. One of our teams even made it through to the final of their group, narrowly missing out on the win after a very close match.
A brilliant experience for all involved — well done, Year 6!
On Tuesday, our Year 5 and 6 football team played in the first round of the Catholic Primary Schools Cup against St Anne’s. The team put in a brilliant performance, showing great teamwork, determination, and skill throughout what was a very tough match.
Their hard work paid off with a fantastic 3–0 victory, securing a well-deserved place in the second round of the cup.

This term in Computing, Year 6 have been using Scratch to create their own versions of the classic Pong game. Their focus has been on variables — an important concept in programming.
The games include several variables they’ve created themselves, such as time, speed, score, and high score. The children have also built on their previous knowledge to design new sprites, add sound effects, and create different backgrounds to make each game unique.

Thank you to everyone who joined the Park Run yesterday — our very first as the All Souls Group! It was my first time attending a Park Run, and I was really impressed by how well it was organised. The atmosphere was fantastic, the setup was seamless, and best of all — it’s completely free!
Next week is an exciting one, as the War Memorial Park Run will be celebrating its 200th event! They’re marking the occasion with a special celebration, complete with cakes/sweets for the runners.
It would be wonderful to see even more of our All Souls runners taking part next week and joining in the festivities.
This term, Year 6 have been learning to play Ultimate Frisbee as part of their PE lessons. Over the past few weeks, they have developed a range of new skills, including throwing techniques such as the forehand and backhand, and different ways of catching the frisbee — from the clap catch to one-handed and two-handed catches. They’ve also been practising throwing accurately to moving targets and learning the key rules and strategies of the game.
Yesterday, the class put all their hard work into action with a mini-tournament, giving everyone the chance to showcase the skills they’ve been working on. As you can see from the photos below, it was a fantastic afternoon full of teamwork, energy, and plenty of smiles!
Next week, Year 6 will be taking on a new challenge — a game of Frisbee Golf — where they can continue to develop their accuracy and control in a fun and competitive way.
Yesterday, our Year 5 and 6 football team played their first game of the season against last year’s winners, St Thomas More. It was an incredible match from start to finish, with both sides creating plenty of exciting chances.
Flynn made played in goal for the very first time and pulled off some superb saves throughout the game. The first half ended goalless, but shortly after the break, we took the lead with a fantastic team goal finished by Seth.
We continued to create several good chances but were unfortunate not to convert any of them. St Thomas More responded strongly, finding their rhythm and scoring three well-taken goals of their own.
With just three minutes remaining, Parker produced a delightful little chip to bring us back to 3–2. Despite some late pressure, we couldn’t quite find the equaliser before the final whistle.
It was an exceptional game from both teams and a brilliant start to the season. Player of the Match, as chosen by the opposing team, was Finlay (Year 5) — well done, Finlay!

In Computing this term, Year 2 are learning to become photographers. So far, they have been exploring how to take photos using a range of devices, including iPads, compact cameras, and bridge cameras.
The children have also learnt about the difference between portrait and landscape photographs, and have been practising how to take pictures in both formats. They are beginning to think carefully about when it might be best to use each one, and it’s been great to see the excitement as they put their new skills into practice.
A group of our Y6 took part in a Swim Safe lesson and workshop today, focusing on swimming safely in open water and what to do in case of emergency. The water was a cool 14 degrees but despite the initial shock, the children coped well, listened to advice and all successfully completed a short swim and survival floating.
