Wow! Running club started again today and we had a record number of children attend, 52, that’s nearly a quarter of the school. Everyone was eager to impress on their run and tried their best to complete as many laps as possible.

As we had so many attend, breakfast was harder to manage. We are therefore after a few parents who wouldn’t mind staying while the children are running to cook toast ready for when they have finished. If you are able to offer any help could you please let Mr Youson know via the office.

Year 6 parents should have received their child’s report today (Wednesday 13th July). All other year groups will receive reports by the end of this week.

Since the start of the summer term, some children from Y4, 5 and 6 have been learning to become more confident swimmers.

Today, 14 excited swimmers from Y5 and 6 proved to everyone (and to themselves) just how much they have improved! Fear was left at the door as our children tackled the rapids, braved the slides and the infamous ‘Spacebowl’…all whilst trying to avoid the shifty shark that was Mr Cooke, chasing, dunking, splashing and really putting our swimmers to the test!!

Congratulations to Mrs Durrans! She wasn’t late, didn’t drown and somehow managed to stick with the group.

We are so proud of their progress and determination throughout the term- let’s hope they’ll keep swimming throughout the summer! A big thank you to Paula for being such a fabulous, friendly instructor and helping our swimmers to see their potential in the water.

What a great day.

Due to the sports day being cancelled Year 1 had their own sports day during their P.E lesson today. They played various team games throughout the lesson with points awarded for the winners as well for sportsmanship, respect and teamwork. It was very close from start to finish however the eventual winners with 400 points were Cana. Congratulations everyone, it was an extremely fun morning.

Due to the field being waterlogged and the forecast for more rain over the next few days we have made the unfortunate decision to cancel sports day on Friday 1st July. It seems very unlikely that we will be able to reschedule this for later in the term, we did however hold a Euro 2016 Day for all the children in KS1 and KS2 on Monday.

Everyone had a wonderful day taking part in our own Euro 2016 Football Tournament. Children from year 1,2 and 3 played in the morning tournament with Spain taking the title and Year 4,5 and 6 children played in the afternoon this time Republic of Ireland were the winners. We done everyone who took part or helped during the day.

Athletics

On Tuesday afternoon children from years 3 – 6 took part in the Catholic Schools Athletics Competition at Warwick University. It was a fantastic afternoon and everyone that took part had a great time. We managed to get a couple of medals on the day, Ryan from Y6 who won the 800m comfortably and then finished in 2nd place in the 100m. We also had quite a few finalists in the both the relay and sprint events however they unfortunately did not finish in the top 3 to gain a medal.

At the end of the competition the Donnal Kenny Trophy was awarded. This goes to the school who gain the most points throughout the year from all the Catholic sporting events. This year All Souls did exceptionally well and finished in third place just behind Holy Family and the winners Christ the King.

Well done to all the children that took part in one of the many competitions this year, third place is a great achievement.

Football Final

Thursday finally saw the much anticipated final of the Small Schools Cup against Whoberley Hall. The boys were up for the final and didn’t want to end a successful season on a low and this showed as they produced a superb performance. After a lot of early pressure we were awarded a penalty for handball which was nicely put away by Jack to give us an early lead. Jack soon added another after the keeper spilled the ball, it kindly fell in front of an open net for him to make it  2-0. After more All Souls pressure on the Whoberley goal Tom crossed a high ball into the area which the goal keeper, who actually had a terrific game, dropped into his own net. 3-0 at half time and a well deserved lead. After the break we made lots of changes with many of the players playing in unfamiliar positions, this led to a much more even game although we still had plenty of chances to extend our lead the Whoberley goal keeper made some wonderful saves. Well done boys you deserved your victory and a great end to a fantastic season!

Tennis

Year 3/4 played in the tennis finals today at The Excel Centre. They all played wonderful and tried their hardest winning three of their 12 games and finishing in 4th position.
