The children loved finding out about capacity, by measuring volumes of water for themselves. They also ordered capacities of containers using the skills they had learnt.

Here are some of the events that happened just before the Easter Holidays. We had an amazing assortment of wonderful Easter bonnets which came in all shapes and sizes. After that there was a hoola hoop competition and finally a ,”Pass the Maltesers,” game in class on the last day of term.

What an eventful week we have had in Y5!
As always, the summer term is such a busy one, jam-packed with events to keep us on our toes! Sponsored bounce, football madness and that’s just the beginning!
Since Y5 are so proactive, joining lots of clubs and contributing well to school life, we must congratulate half the class on their fabulous choir performance at The Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday. They were excellent ambassadors for All Souls. There are a few videos of the performance shared on the PTA facebook page that will give you tingles!
Our prayer services are really developing into thoughtful, reflective collective worships that truly give us focus and food for thought. Since the beginning of the Spring Term, the children have been learning to create their own prayer services. Through hearing feedback given to other groups, we have all learnt from each other and some groups have produced such a beautiful, mature service that they have been shown to other classes!
In literacy, we have been developing scripts based on our text, War Horse. Y5 have been so engaged and really enjoyed refining their techniques- we can’t wait to read the finished pieces. West End, here we come!
We have moved onto an exciting new topic in science, ‘Living Things and Their Habitats’. For the next few weeks we will be investigating life cycles and reproduction of plants and animals. It’s such an interesting topic, learning about life in the world around us and it also links very well with our gardening projects…
The weather has most definitely hindered our green fingers but at least the rain means our plants are well hydrated. Last week, our garden reporters informed us that our flowers and veggies are battling with lots of pesky weeds! Slowly but steadily, our carrots and radishes are making a slight appearance but no sign of the flowers yet!
Finally, just a few notices for the week ahead…
- A reminder of our Y5 Humanities Day at Bishop Ullathorne on Friday. There is no need to bring a packed lunch as lunch will be provided. Please refer to the letter for further details.
- We are in full swing with our Y5/6 end of year play rehearsals so if anyone has any Arabian/ Aladdin style costumes, please may you bring them in- labelled with your name- ASAP. Thank you!
- As it is Y6’s Confirmation on Sunday, we ask that as many Y5s as possible attend to sing in the choir and show support. Remember, you will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation next year and will want your peers to support you!
Have a fabulous week everyone!
Below are the current league positions for the dreamteam competition. Brothers Alex and William top the children’s league closely followed by Ewan in third. Last week was a great week for our sports teams. First we hosted a girls football tournament on Tuesday with 8 Catholic Schools taking part. The girls played magnificently all afternoon and managed to win their group and get through to the knockout stages. They played St Thomas More in the semi-final and thanks to a wonderful goal from Keavy and some terrific saves by Emma managed to win the game 1-0 and progress to the final. We played the pre-tournament favourites Christ the King in the final, they were a fantastic team and unfortunately beat us quite comfortably. The girls played very well and to win a silver medal and finish second place is a great achievement. Well done girls!
On Friday a mixture of boys and girls from Years 5 and 6 took part in a Gaelic Football tournament. Just like the girls on Tuesday the team played fantastically and won all their group games to finish top of the group and go through to the final against Christ the King. This was a very tough game and although they gave their all it was Christ the King who were once again victorious. 2nd place again and another silver medal great effort everyone.
Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures of the girls football.
With the Euro’s just around the corner we have decided to run a dreamteam competition. This is where you are given 50 million pounds (virtual unfortunately) to spend on 11 players from the Euro’s. These 11 players then score you points throughout the competition, these points are then added together to give you place in our league with the winner of the competition receiving a prize.
You can enter by clicking here choosing your 11 players and entering one of our mini leagues. If you are entering the child’s league please make sure an adult has consented and filled in their appropriate details.
Adult League Pin : 8528687 (£5 per team)
Children’s League Pin: 8545068 (£3 per team)
Please send entry forms and money into school by Friday.
Prizes will be announced once we have received all entries.

This half term Year 5 and 6 have been playing cricket in P.E. So far they have learnt to bowl, field and play the drive shot. Yesterday they practiced the pull shot which is a shot played on the back foot unlike the drive which they learnt the week previous which is played on the front foot. Everyone managed to hit the ball, they concentrated on keeping their eyes on the ball trying to keep it down once hit so that they were not at risk of being caught out.
Below are a few photos from Year 5 playing the shot off a cone.
